that's a terrible present
the lady could have made up a nice present by giving your mum some notelets or writing paper and envelopes and then put the stamps in with them - that would have been thoughtful
i had a friend whose son was given a one day fishing licence by her ex husband (the boy's father) - it cost about £2 - as a birthday present
the same boy received one of the free clock radio's you sometimes get for joining a catalogue by the nan
my own daughter received a free mcdonald's toy from my ex husband as a birthday present - as you can imagine we are no longer in touch
funny enough it is often the people with the most money who give the lousiest presents - it's my experience that the most generous people are often the people with the least money
at least your mum has a book of stamps - quite useful and they are first class ha, ha (would have been worse if it had been 6 and they had been second class!) x

Mybe in buying her the stamps, it was a hint that she wants your mum to write to her more often, or maybe its a joke that goes back before you were born, either way its the thought that counts.
I have never had a really bad present as such as I am grateful for everything that I receive, because at least we can give gifts to one another I always think of all those starving children in a third world country, that don't even know what a gift is, and it makes me alot more grateful for what I do have!

How mean is that? That is soooo bad. My worst present was a make up kit that only had quarter of the make up in it. My neighbour had decided to keep most of the make up for herself and I got what was left over. Also, she gave me a 2005 diary for 2006!

I received an electronic toy meant for ages 3+ from my Grandma once, I was about 16 at the time.

Oh that's hysterical and soooo old fashioned. When I was a child my Aunt would always send money for my birthday in the form of stamps and expect my parents to exchange them for me. Drove my Mum mad! Ignore all the people saying you should be grateful for any gift - that's twaddle. I'd be gutted at receiving a book of postage stamps!

at least they are useful could be worse, could be one of those presents you only bring out when that person is coming round. My grandad once bought my nan a pack of rennies for her birthday as he said they was more useful than some chocolates, lol.

I think once you hit adulthood you cease looking at presents as being best or worst and you are just glad to now someone was thinking of you and wanted to give you something. Amongst the most wonderful gifts I have ever received have been little play doh models my son has made me, which are completely useless and to everyone else worthless, but to me they are amazing.

I've never had a 'worst' gift. I never expect it, and really don't want any. But I appreciate anything someone gives me.
On the other hand, I had a gift that was thrown at me. That was the first time I remember hearing my heart crack!
But I got over it.

My ex husband (when he was still my husband) bought me a tube of hair removal cream for my birthday. I had given him a digital camera for his birthday four months previously.
