Our government and Corporate America both want them here because they are a source of cheap labor. They will work for less than what an American would want for wages. That's the real bottom line. Who's going to try and stop them? The only thing that would stop it is a mass outcry or uprising from the general public, but people here are so dumbed-down and distracted (probably on purpose) that they don't notice or care. Until it really is too late.
I guess what I'm saying in answer to your question is no, it's probably not too late, if enough of the American public were really paying attention, and really understood what is at stake here. I don't think they do though......
Edit:
I agree with some of the other answerers here - this allowance of unchecked, unrestricted Mexican trucks on our highways is just one more sign that the plan to implement the North American Union (NAU) is moving ahead as planned. The lack of media coverage on this is probably no coincidence - the people putting this into place are counting on doing all of this piecemeal, bit by small bit, under everyone's radar, until it is a done deal.

I also think we have waited way too long, this has been going on for years.
Now it is just so bad that it no longer can be hidden.Even in "better" neighborhoods things are being felt.Over crowded schools, traffic, hospitals closing ect.
Our government can stop and even reverse most of it if they really wanted to.There are many ways to do so, we just need someone to stand up and do something, the time for talk is over.

I don't think it's too late...although pro-illegal activists WANT us to think that way. I just think of all the school over-crowding and prison over-crowding and even the horrible traffic that will make a sudden turnaround when they are gone. Hooray! If we make this country pretty darn unpleasant for them, they'll leave on their own. They aren't in it for "hardships" they are in it for all the perks. They have no allegiance to this country. They are still flying their foreign flags and speaking their native language. They will leave, like any other vermin, and move on to easier pickings if we make it very very unpleasant.

Let me think...yes. The U.S. has allowed Mexican semi-truck drivers unrestricted border access through out the U.S.. The cargo isn't even checked. This was passed about one to two weeks ago. If you haven't heard, the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are economically and politically merging. Don't consider unrestricted Mexican truck drivers driving through out the U.S. with unchecked cargo as proof?
What ever happened to the American populace's screams about Dubai Ports World controlling our main ports? Guess there was a media blackout or something on the Mexican semi-trucks.
Knowing this, you might want to jack up the estimation a crap load.

No, but it is going to take a tremendous clean up effort once they leave to bring this country back.
Call your Senators to vote NO on the Dream Act!

Yeah it's too late and with the impending North American Union you can forget about border control. They are only building that temporary 700 mile wall to appease all the people who are concerned about illegal immigration. As a Libertarian I believe people should have the right to live and work wherever they choose to. The only thing that will slow down massive illegal immigration is when there are more opportunities in poorer countries. Free market capitalism and freedom are the solution.
