We have 3 cats, all of them strictly indoors. My little sister's cat, female, young adult, went missing on the 14th. My mom said she was playing in the back room chasing after a fly, and she hadn't seen her since then. We think she might have jumped on the screen door we have there and it wouldn't hold...so it swung open, she ran out, and the wind blew the door shut again, because nobody noticed an open door.

We've already looked everywhere inside, talked to several neighbors, put up posters in public areas, regularly contact animal control, and done a sweep of the nearby areas outside, including sheds, garages, etc. What else can we do? We're all worried sick. She hasn't had any shots, she isn't spayed, and she isn't microchipped...

What are the odds of us finding her? What else can we do? We're all worried sick about the poor cat. =(

I had the same thing happen to me just over a week ago. I started freaking out! I put up fliers. I even offered a diamond ring as a reward. To make matters worse we were moving in less than a week! After much praying & praying some more I started to reluctently accept I may never see him again. After 5 nights of constant worrying I was awaken by meowing at 2am. All my other cats were passed out. I immediatley jumped up & opened my door & it was my missing cat Itty Bitty Kitty! I was so shocked. It is my hope that you have a happy reunion as I did. I know it's tough but try to have faith that your kitty will come home. Keep trying the humane society & places as such. I know the absolute worse is not knowing. But I am sure she's prolly pretty smart & cats seem to always find their way home in time...Good luck

Comb the inside of the house again. Look in places you wouldn't think a cat could get to, and closets, chests, drawers, etc that you think haven't been opened in a while.

Cats are notorious for getting stuck in strange places.

If you don't find her, she may very well have gotten out. Go around the neighborhood calling her in the early evening and early morning hours. Cats are diurnal and typically sleep during mid-day.

Put up fliers and and ad in the paper too. You can also post lost cat information on website like flealess market.

If all else fails, you can hire a pet detective with a search dog. The dog may be able to pick up on the cat's scent. This is expensive, but you may find someone with a dog at your local search and rescue who'd be willing to do it for a reduced fee.

Check with the local vets too.

And please, put collars and ID tags on your other cats.

Here's a great website dedicated to how to deal with such a problem. It provides lots of practical advice and information, together with phone numbers and website address on organisations that can help. I realise that it's UK based, but the information contained (not the contact details) is relevant in any country.

Here's the address:

Good luck, and never give up hope. Our neighbours' cat returned after an absence of 3 years. He's semi feral now which suggests he'd managed to fend for himself in the wild

I had the same problem with my cat just a few days ago..
You could try to put an ad in a local newspaper?
Apart from that just continue what you're doing, maybe leave some food and water out for the kitty.
Good luck finding her! I hope she's ok.

Maybe your cat is in 'mating season', or on heat... Maybe it needs freedom - don't worry too much, your cat knows where to find you.
The odds of finding her are hmm, 50/50. I can;t promise she'll ever return but I can;t say she won't either! Microchip her if she ever comes back. You just missed the free micro chipping day on the 15th! In Australia all cats and dogs get free micro chipping! No restricted breeds. Better wait til' next year if you live in Australia.!
Hope you find your darling...

Oh particular! for all time lol, it makes me leap up with fright and show regret (cats call) and then I comprehend that is barely between the cats rubber balls that i'm stepping on. it is so humorous whilst that occurs! lol

Take a quick look at nearby trees. One of mine once didn't come home at night and I went out and found her about 60 feet up a pine tree. I told her she would come down when she was cold and hungry enough, and she did.
