Ah lucky you, i bet their a joy to watch. Your doing everything right so don't worry but you could now put the pups on some weetabix to save mum having to endure those hard gums ha ha. Get a round large plate or a dinner tray will do, boil up half a pint of milk mixed with half a pint of water and a teaspoon of sugar and pour it over three or four weetabix so that its of a runny consistency, you know, lickable ha ha, wait for it to cool down and put it down for the babies. You'll have to encourage them to lick it as they won't know what it is bless em! You could give mum some boiled chicken and veg such as carrots and broccoli and give her some whelping powder on top, it'll help build her up. Its nice to hear of someone who obviously loves both their dog and their babies, a lot of people are in it for the money nowadays. If you've a video camera, take some footage of them and post on youtube, you'll get loads of hits.

When we adopted a neglected dog, who was more than 1kg under the minimum weight for her breed (she's also a JRT) we got her a nutitional suppliment. It is a favored gel that we mix in with her food. She loves the taste of it (It smells like vanilla scented cookies!) and is always happy to see her bowl at dinnertime!

Eggs are great for dogs, and cottage cheese.Give her a couple of cooked eggs every day,and a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. Also, switch her over to puppy food instead of regular ,and add some meat as well, and stop the calcium supplement. If she's getting puppy food, milk and cottage cheese, she won't need it,and it could harm her. You can also start to offer the puppies moistened puppy food now,so they won't nurse as much.Start them out on mushy food.Let them eat about a fourth of a cup each, twice twice a day and increase as they get older. You should take the mom and pups to the vet for a check -up,as the vet can give you the best advice. I hope you will get the mom spayed when the pups are weaned.

I breed dogs and have had three litters of 12 pups. We feed our ***** on puppy food while she is feeding the puppies and she does very well on that. There is no need to give calcium tablets if your dog is on puppy food as it has a higher calcium percentage than regular food. Also, giving baby milk (human or puppy) can give your dog diarrhoea so it is best just to give her water, again, the puppy food will give her extra calories and nutrients. We also leave the food out all the time (we use dry food) and that means your dog will be able to eat as much as she needs when she needs it.
We use Burgess Supadog Puppy which is relatively cheap and is gluten free and also has no artificial aditives.
Good luck with your puppies and enjoy!

Feed her to appetite, this is one time when she can have as much food as she demands. Give her a good quality food & cut out the calcium tablets. Calcium on its own can actually be dangerous, it needs to be given in conjunction with other things. You can get a special formula from the vet but if your b1tch is having a good diet she shouldn't need extra. Too much milk may give her the runs but an egg every couple of days will be fine.

If you have any natural pet food stores in your location, I'd reccomend heading out there and investing in a few bags of "Wellness" dog food, or other all natural dog food brands. They use human grade food, meat and fruits and vegetables, to make kibble for our pets. You'll be feeding your dog a better diet, one with more nutrients than the "average" dog food can provide.
You might also consider just grabbing some red meat from your local grocers and chopping it up finely and mixing it with her normal food just to get some iron in her and hopefully raise her energy level. Lots of love helps too =)

the fact that the dog has to go out of the dogflap when it rains says it all. If you dont like getting wet then the dog doesnt either. Get an umbrella and go out with him

Feed her a good quality puppy food while pregnant and lactating. And start weaning the puppies now by offering them puppy food watered down into a gruel. Most moms start weaning their babies at 4-5 weeks.
Almost all Moms look thin and sickly after raising babies. It is just a normal part of raising puppies.
Congratulations on your babies.

i think it is wise to let her have access to as much food as she wants, she has to have enugh nutrients to produce good milk to feed her 6 pups while also getting enugh for her own need's...and dont forget she will need loads of fresh water to replace the fluid being taken by the pup's. congratulations on your pups, cant have enugh jack's in the world if you ask me!
