well, im still in school!! but its my last year, im a senior lol. and because of that, my classes arent very challenging...i took my harder classes before. anyway, in the morning, my first class is Culinary Arts....i thought it was going to be a bit more fun, but it hasnt so far...come on, we talked about washing our hands for a whole period last week LOL! and the teacher said he hates doing nothing but talking all the time (bla bla bla), but thats the first thing he does! all we have been doing is sitting in our chairs and taking notes. i get very bored and i tend to get distracted easily because of this....what can i do to focus more on such a boring class? we wont get to actually cook in class till about the end of this week. so that means no fun till the end of this week!

If the teacher is saying something useful and worth remembering, try having a coffee before class! Works for me.
Does the teacher repeat himself? It can be tough when the lecture is boring but the teacher insists on examining every little irrelevant detail, and makes you write it down. Again, maybe the trick above will work here too!
However, if it is repetitive and the teacher isn't going to be rigourous in examining every little bit of what he's saying, then maybe you should focus on picking up what's important, and the rest of the time look interested but think about something more useful!!!
Good luck. Don't take this literally as advice - just ideas for you to ponder and decide along with all the other advice you get here.

Oh God, I wish I knew! Had the same problem in 'The history of the Nurse' and spent most of the time asking myself "why am I here?" I have to say that an awful lot of what we learn at School, and University, is absolutely no possible use in everyday life but its on the syllabus so has to be covered - draw pictures or doodle - that's what I used to do and if anyone caught me i just said it helped me to focus on the lecture!!

Bored? I do not know the meaning of the word. Well, I do as I know the dictionary definition, but all I am saying is I do not feel boredom as a number of people describe, as do you about some of your classes. My mind is always active. I intentionally concentrate on being active in my mind. I am always trying to read between the lines, especially in a classroom scenario where someone is lecturing. I always think of other questions about something I am in the process of learning. Sometimes, the questions I generate for myself have absolutely NOTHING (on the surface) to do with the subject at hand. You have answered your own question, focus. Focus on the subject and use your imagination to read between the lines of the lecture. Maybe, by thinking about things with your imagination, you will come up with something which might be off the wall which deserves further exploration. I feel you are maybe lacking in curiosity about things in general. Do you ever look up at the sky on a dark night and wonder what is going on out there in the universe? Is there someone on a far away planet we do not know of yet looking up at his/her sky and wondering the exact same thing about US? Do you ever examine the grass and the dirt and wonder what is going on which makes the grass green? Or what insects are living just out of your sight in that small patch of green grass? What about the billions of bacteria in your digestive tract which can only survive because you are alive as you are? Did you know there are insects which live on your eyelids in the follicles of your eyelashes (known as dust mites) which only can procreate an d move beyond you to elsewhere because your mate kisses your eyes? There are HUGE numbers of beings, bacterias, which can not live unless you do.
I am only suggesting that being bored is simply a state of mind and you are fixed on one particular state of mind at this point in your life which you equate with boredom. I suggest you try to expand your horizons, think bigger, look for the questions even if they seem unrelated (your subconscious is wonderful at connecting things you can not see in your conscious life). There are NO dumb questions, though people might make fun of you because... they do not see the bigger picture that you see. Just so you know, it took me over 40 years of my life experience for me to realize this is what I was doing and how it was I never became bored as my friends claimed to be. You are SO young, and inexperienced. As you gain experience in life, you will eventually find out that life is SO much more than singular events, some of which you term boring.

Talk to other learners and get their opinions. If that is general consensus send class prefect to tell the teacher your concerns and then come up with constructive opinions/if you can 't concentrate try to write what the teacher says so you can re check it later when you have time and good concentration span.

I never was good at that. I was always daydreaming. Especially when the weather was nice, and spring was approaching!
I went to ASU and I just wanted to sit on the lawn near Hayden and watch the world (read: girls) go by.

well you could always try listening.. haha
or when s/he is explaining things to you.. try and imagine exciting things or your hobbys in conjunction to what their saying
for example... if they are explaining a math topic..
and your favourite hobby is shopping..
then use the math working out and imagine your in the shops having a good time shopping with the math numbers..
it will make your subject feel more fun and more personal for you to want to learn it
