Highway 15 (Laurentian Autoroute) north from Montreal to Tremblant (Hwy 15 becomes Hwy 117 around 100 km north of Montreal). Follow the signs to the ski hill (Mount Tremblant). I believe that you can ride up the ski lift for a great view of the fall foliage. From Tremblant, take Hwy 323 south to Montebello. Then Hwy 148 east towards Lachute. From Lachute take Hwy 327 South to St. Andre d'Argenteuil and then Hwy 344 east towards Oka. From Oka, take the ferry over to Hudson. Turn right on Main Road when you get of the ferry, and then follow through the picturesque village to Cote St. Charles. Turn left on Cote St. Charles and then take Hwy 40 back to Montreal.
If you did this trip without stopping it could be done in about 4 to 5 hours.
Best time around Tremblant is the second and third week of October.

The trees are just starting to turn in New Brunswick now. I've never seen an area that has as many different colours as the Maritimes. The first to turn are the swamp maples and they are a gorgeous flaunting scarlet right now. The sugar maples and red maples will be later. Then there are the bright yellows of the birches, the dark gold of the oaks, the brilliant red "candles" on the sumacs, and all the flashy orange leaves. Standing on top of a ridge, you can see miles of brilliant colours, and every turn of the road brings a new vista, more lovely than the last.

I've trucked through some incredible fall colors throughout the years. Amazing beauty all over. Anywhere through the Rockies easily comes to mind. Heading north of Quebec City towards Alma another inspiring area. New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Nova Scotia can take your breath away. Someone already mentioned parts of Ontario. Pick an area and drive. B.C. , Yukon, take your pick. Doesn't matter where you are, you can find fall all over.

You can check out the fall colours in Ontario at " FALL COLOUR REPORT" which is updated twice a week and tells you what the colours are like in each area of the province of Ontario.

You can find it on line at http://www.ontariotravel.net/publications/fallcolourreport.pdf
