Banana, lemon, and golden yellow will go with:
a little pink [ rose ] or red
peach or coral
sage, leaf or mint green
pale, sky, aqua, or smoke blue
lavender, purple, plum
caramel, coffee brown
light or charcoal gray
white or ivory
Try samples of bright and not-so-bright yellows before you purchase paint [ samples painted on poster board for a few days ]. Look at Behr Colorsmart Premium Plus yellow paint charts to see what I mean.

I know others have suggested blue, but that sounds hideous to me. Ick. I also painted my living room yellow, it only lasted for about 1 month before I couldn't stand it and repainted....I felt like I was in a Nextel office all day. Kept hearing that dang beep from the commercials! I would go for a light mocha or cocoa brown and then accent a wall with a warm yellow...not lemon, but more like a sante fe type yellow, deeper- you know? Then again you may love lemon yellow...I just wanted to add my personal experience. It looks good on paper but then after my whole room was swallowed in it...it was baaad. Good luck!

The best accent colors are lemon yellow are a lighter sky blue, green, and white.
Solution for success:
- All 4 walls yellow (eggshell latex)
- All floor and wall trim Semi gloss white (latex)
- Ceilings flat white (cheap white primer does the same job)
- White Resin Wide-slat wooden lookalike Blinds (cheap, home depot, look very rich, thick and expensive.)
- Soft drapes on each side of window, or valence over top in soft shades of blue, green, with hint of yellow.
