Careers at WFP ( World Food Program ) or CARE?

Question

I want to help reduce hunger and poverty. Can I get a job at humanitarian agencies like CARE,WFP, etc with a BSc in Psychology?. I'm doing Psychology, but I dont wish to continue in the field of mental health. I like to have a field job where I would get to help people who dont have food and shelter.

They have jobs ranging from unpaid interns to senior country directors, so the amount of education and experience you need would depend on the position you want.

Why do you have to donate to such a large bureaucratic agency which is probably U.N. sponsored and subsidized anyway. There is no real way to verify that it is trustworthy or that your money will be spent for the purpose you want it for. Why not donate to a local food bank or to your local Church. You can donate food that you buy from the supermarket. You can help take care of World Hunger right in your own local area. I do not know if you are in the United States but if you are there are many people struggling to get enough food. Take a look in your own neighborhood. You could also donate to a local homeless Relief agency. This will make it easier for you to see if your money is really going to help the hungry........ The World is a big place and so it is better if you start in your own area. Perhaps you could get some co-workers to try and donate food or money to a local food bank or a "soup kitchen" which provides meals for the hungry and needy. You could maybe make raffle and use the proceeds to give to a needy organization. There are many ways to start on the local level which will make a difference........ and you will know better if your efforts are making a difference
