I had part of my big toe nail come off after I damaged it in an accident. Now it looks pretty weird. There seems to e a paper-thin nail covering my skin, but the hard nail you usually see is gone. Can a fake nail be applied to what's remaining? I have about 1/4" of nail left at the very base. If a fake nail was applied, would in interfere or irritate the new nail underneath? Thanks for any help you have.

The thin sheet that you see is your nail bed, you do not want ot do anything to damage it, then the nail will be damaged permanently. You can get an acrylic one applied but i don't recommend it, some of thet chemicals they use can really irritate the nail bed since it's so thin and damaged. If you happen to catch it or kick something god knows what, it can tear you nail bed off and permanently damage the bed and matrix (which is where the nail grows from) not good by the way. I would try one of those cheap little kits from walmart of walgreens that has the little glue on toenails. When you apply it try not to get glue on the nail bed that does not have a nail. Make sure that you make sure it fits good and you keep it nice and clean. Give it a bit and it will grow back, toe nails grow a bit slower than fingers so just be patient. I have had a few clients use these when their nails have been damaged and come off, keep the extras in the kit you may need to reapply later. Do not try to pull it off if it need to come off use acetone and a cotton ball wrap it in foil and let it soak it will come right off in a few min. its much better that pulling it off. Also file it down so it's not too long it would really suck to rip it off too. Good Luck you can contact me if you have more questions or need help

yes u can get one im a nail tech at a spa and even if you barely have nail you can get acryilic but make sure they use a good bonder and primer or it wont stay on.... if they do it wrong water can get under and you will get an infection, which would make ur nail look worse, but if u decide to get it dont take it off yourselff by ripping it, let a nail tech soak it off with acetone

No I wouldn't because the chemicals and glue would infect it and stop it from breathing/growing back. Besides imagine if you hit your toe or accidentally ripped it - the pain would be excruciating. I would just leave it or wear closed shoes or even better put a band aid on it.

you totally can put a acrylic nail over it. my friend a couple of years ago had the same problem and she liked it so much she started doing both of her big toes. looks pretty good too.

Well, traditionally, it's good to go with basic neutral colours, that don't stand out too much, for your first time. However, I think yours should be painted yellow, Kodiak.
