I think the dressing up part is ok and fun for kids, as long as in good taste, but the rest no.

Look, I think you are looking for justification to participate. I hate telling my children no on Halloween, but I do. I think any Christian with any knowledge at all, knows there is nothing good or holy about this celebration. Go ahead, ask yourself what am I celebrating? Why am I participating? It's a holiday or celebration that glorifies evil. Don't fall for it just because some kids dress up like little kittens. Name 5 things that first come to your mind when you think about Halloween. Ghost, skeletons, witches, night, and scary. Anyway, I think participating in this Halloween celebration is wrong. And I am not even religious!

Observing it as giving out candy to little ones isn't harming anyone. Now if you decide to conjure up evil spirits, and things of that nature, I would say a person is really pushing it. Christians can live in this world and they aren't all stuffy. We educate ourselves to know the difference, and do not become sticks in the mud. In good taste yes. Just teach your children to know the difference in holiday celebrations, and let them enjoy. Just don't idol worship, or delve into devil worship, and evil spirits etc. I do not "celebrate" Halloween, as a Christian, but enjoy seeing the little ones out and about having a good time.

"Now Halloween as we know it today also has a Christian connection. Pope Boniface the IV established All Saints Day in the 7th Century, but Pope Gregory III established the date of November 1st for its celebration. All Saints Day was a day to honor the Saints, known and unknown, and to symbolically provide them with food for their heavenly feasts. This was a day of prayer to God and thanksgiving. The night before was called All Hallows Eve (Hallow=Holy), although it was not considered a specific part of All Saints Day."

What's interesting is to hear "some" Christians make all sorts of claims about demonic influences and the occult.
All of this type of propaganda seems to be taken from stoylines of movies, rather than any fact.

I don't recommend it. Some churches have costume parties for the kids though. If you're going to pass out candy, tape a kid's tract to it. I personally remember being scared out of my wits at 4 years old by a "witch" that came to the door. Remember, anything you can't do in faith is sin for you. The kids can dress up anytime.

As Catholics, we celebrate All Saints Day which is the day after Nov. 1. It's a feast day of all saints and children celebrate by dressing up as a saint. Halloween was popularized later by the pagans to "steal the thunder" if you will, from the Catholic holy day.

It is not appropriate to participate in Halloween as it is also a celebration of evil which is repulsive to any Christian.

Halloween,, like many of our holidays, evolved from pagan festivals. I don't think christians should have an issue celebrating halloween if they celebrate christmas with all of the little parts that are distinctly pagan (the yule log comes to mind).

that and the fact both holidays have become so commercialized to have lost all mean anyway.

Halloween as just a fun tradition no problem. Embrace the evil it can represent absolutely not.

I kind of feel along the same lines as you. I have no problem with the wearing of appropriate costumes and sharing candy and visits with neighbors. I'm not so much into the idea of scaring others and talking about ghosts and so forth.
