I edit word documents all the time but it is always emply

In Word the Recent files option is set as follows:

Tools -> Options

Click the General Tab

Half way down th elist make sure you pput a check mark in "Recently used file list:" and also some number.

Click OK

If you mean Windows XP Recent Documents then do the following:

Right click the Taskbar, choose Properties

Click the Start Menu Tab

Click the Customize button

Click on the General Tab

Type the number of entries you want.

Click the Advanced Tab.

At the bottom of this put a check mark in the "List my recently opened documents".

click OK to close all dialogs.
