Your TV is fine! There are a few things to consider when trying to get top quality HDTV.

As someone already mentioned. You need an HD (High Definition) source. This is usually your cable or satellite provider, and in some cases some DVD players.

There are at least 3 different levels of HD resolutions, but I won't get into that. Just make sure you have an HD source, (you may need to upgrade your cable/satellite service and receiver/box). Once you've done that, make sure you get some good quality cables.

About the cables... That could be a whole separate discussion. Some will say you have to go with high-end (expensive) cables sold at your local stores, while others believe you can use cables bought online and be fine... I got mine on ebay for about 1/20th of the cost of Circuit City.

Anyway, back to cables... Three main types of HD cables:
1) DVI - not used too much anymore (sound is separate).
2) Component - Pretty common set of three colored cables (red, blue & green) & (sound is separate).
3) HDMI - Newer type which also carries the sound signal.

Knowing this difference is important because you need to find out what type of connector your cable box or DVD player has and then get the correct type of cable.

I know this seems like a lot, but it's not too complicated....

Steps:
1) Make sure you have an HD source
2) Identify what type of cables you need
3) Hook up your source(s) to the various inputs on your TV
4) Select that input from your TV remote
5) Enjoy High Definition Television!

I hope this helps. Below I've included some links to good sources of online HD cables and information.

i might get a psthree, whether you're no longer into video games. It performs DVDs, Blu-Ray, and that is made by Sony which will work together with the Sony television fairly nicely, besides as aesthetically adventure the television's bezel. The HDTV won't "upscale" the SD DVDs. you merely ought to make helpful that the SD DVDs are in Widescreen format. the photograph high quality won't be able to be more desirable by hardware; it could in user-friendly terms be shown on the time-honored wherein it grow to be produced. final analysis, the psthree won't permit you down, and that's the main inexpensive Blu-Ray participant on the marketplace as we communicate, with many extra helpful factors than in user-friendly terms a action picture participant. are not getting an HD-DVD participant. they are going to be cheap in case you spot them, yet HD-DVD has been killed off and should not be in production to any extent further. Blu-Ray won the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD conflict.

It sounds to me like your problem is that your TV is HD-Ready, which simply means you need an HD/Digital Cable box which has the HD tuner in it, unlike the HD-ready TV. Once you have that box, you will have the HD & Digital good quality, provided you upgrade to HD cable. If you have Satellite, you need an HD satellite receiver to give you the HD picture. My Sony Grand Wega is HD ready & I got the HD box & I'm in business.

To get a great picture you need an HD source (antenna, satellite or cable).

HDMI is just an a/v interface. Use HDMI or component cables for HD signals.

Analog cable will look REALLY bad, so time to upgrade your source!!
