Baptism is a symbol of one's dedicating his life to God. Baptism is a symbolic burial, the person dying to his former selfish pursuits (going under the water) and being raised up to do God's will (coming out of the water). Jesus' ministry began after his baptism and when the Ethiopian man in the book of Acts learned about Jesus, he was immersed.

The blood of Christ washes away sin. (Revelation 1:5)
This blood was shed and offered for our sins when Christ died upon the Cross. It is through this blood that we can be saved. (Romans 5:8-10)
The very next chapter (Romans 6), probably on the same page in your Bible, tells you how to contact this saving blood. We cannot wash in the blood if we do not contact it!
Since the blood was shed at Christ's death, we must contact His death to contact the blood. Romans 6:3-13 tells us that at baptism we are "baptized into His death"! (See Colossians 2:12 also.) That is when we contact the blood.
Romans 6 also teaches that we are "baptized into Christ". We cannot be saved outside of Christ!
Romans 6:4 continues to teach that at baptism, we "rise to walk in newness of life"! At a birth there is new life. We cannot be saved if we are not "born again" into this new life in Christ!
That is why Saul (Paul) was told to "be baptized and wash away your sins"! (Acts 22:16) We cannot be saved if our sins remain!
Jesus said, "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved". (Mark 16:16)
Some say that you believe, are saved, and then you shall be baptized. This is not the same thing Jesus said. It is not in the same order!
What would Jesus have said if He had meant, "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved"?
I believe He said what he meant and meant what he said! I believe Jesus! "He that believes not shall be condemned!" (Mark 16:16)
Jesus commanded baptism! "And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him!" (Hebrews 5:9) We cannot be saved if we do not submit to the authority of Christ in obedience!
Peter said, "Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you -- not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience -- through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 3:21)
What would Peter have said if he had meant "baptism now saves you"?
Baptism is "for the remission of sins", "unto the remission of sins", or "so that your sins will be forgiven"! (Acts 2:38, depending on which version you read)
Baptism; along with faith, confession, and repentance; is part of the plan of salvation that God established for us to follow!
The Greek word we get the word "baptism" from, means to immerse.
There is no Biblical basis for sprinkling or pouring.
This can also be seen in Scripture.
John 3:23 says, "Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized." Only immersion requires "much water".
Baptism is described as going down into the water and coming up out of the water. (Matthew 3:16-17, Acts 8:38-39) Only immersion has the one being baptized going into the water.
Also, baptism is described as a burial. (Romans 6:3-4, Colossians 2:12) Only immersion buries the one being baptized.
It's funny that the only place that people have trouble understanding baptism is in religion. If someone were to say they were "baptized in debt", would you think they had just a sprinkling of debt (a few bills)? No, someone described in this way is figuratively "covered up" with debt.
I saw a sports article that said the freshmen on a football team had an "early baptism". Of course it mean they were plunged into full sudden participation in the program. They did not just see a sprinkling of activity, but they were fully involved.
If we can understand this everywhere else, why not in religion?

Baptism is an authentic sacrament of the church, and when it is accomplished using water, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit ... it is always 100% effective at washing away all sin, making one a temple of the Holy Spirit, an adopted child of God, a member of the church, and co-heir with Jesus Christ.
Baptism is effective at any age, and it freely bestows what both God and his authentic and universal church intends ... which is the grace of salvation in Christ.

Babtism or emerssion is a metaphor for a couple of intresting points in our observance towards G-d, emerssion can be viewed as a picture of birth, as a baby is inside the mothers stomach he/she is suspended in water until he/she emerges from the womb. Hence the term "born of water".
{This would be where a person communicates to G-d and man about his alligance to the messiah by this emerssion, which in this case it's analaguos to his {re-birth} the term "born again" comes from here, since he is already an adult.
Next picture of babtism can be veiwed as cleansing one's self from sin figuratively, but this physical application of emerssion will actually come true if applied with emuna [faith].
The other form of fulfilling this commandment of emersion is, because G-d desires us to do so, so in order to fulfill all rightouseness from G-d we would need to follow his instructions by emersing ourselves in the water, "for he said, so we must do".
Ok....... you know what is babtism in water, do you know what being babtised in the spirit means?
This only can be explained to someone with ears to hear and eyes to see and a mouth to speak.
Those who are idol worshippers will not understand for they bow down to things that have eyes and cannot see, ears and cannot hear and mouths but cannot speak, they are likened unto there idols those who bow down to them, the prophet has said.
What I have taught here is spirit, why? Because it's origin was uttered by the spirit of G-d through his prophets.
Now .....if you read his word which is spirit, will you not the same {emerse} yourself in his spirit with that of the messiah since he is one with G-d?
You in him and him in you, what am I talking about...........THE WORD OF G-D.
Unless you are born of water and of the spirit you cannot enter the kingdom of G-d.
We are given the "free will" to fulfill the commandment of emersion in water, but it is the annointed king who emerses in the spirit and in [fire], the latter emerssion in fire is the babtism for the wicked which he alone performs, for it is G-d who has the power to cast your body and soul into hell and all power and dominion and authority has been past unto his son, Yeshua melech ha-moshiach= Savior the anointed king
So fear him and live accordingly to the will of him who knows the minds and hearts of all mankind.
May G-d grant you understanding to know his word.

It is a covenant, owned by God, that replaces Old Testament circumcision. Read it this way in the Bible, and you will start seeing the parallels.
