Say like if you open a music CD & play it & then decide you don't like it, is it wrong or OK to give it away? Some people view it as low-down & dirty because they figure it should be unused & unopened.

if your honest that you opened it and your just giving it away, cuz you don't want it to go to waste, I think that is fine.

If you are giving something opened as a gift (birthday, wedding, anniversary, etc.) That's tacky, and should be avoided at all costs.

If the person you are giving it to is a good friend, then they wouldn't mind. My friends and I do that kind of stuff all the time. Last year at Christmas, all my friends got a gift bag with a new candle, some cute new slipper socks and a book I had already read, but enjoyed and knew they'd like . (I told them I'd read it) My true friends know I'm not made of money! And I gave my brother one of his favorite old movies, and I watched it first, but why would he care? It didn't make it worth any less monetarily or thoughtfully that I watched it too. I think it's fine, as long as you don't try to pass it off as new.

I've had friends give me CDs that they wrapped up but I could tell they had already used them. I think it's fine to give used gifts away, but I would recommend telling the person that you bought the CD and didn't like it and thought that they might enjoy it.

I think that as long as its not a gift, then there's no problem. If someone else will enjoy it more then you, why not give it to them?

"I bought this cd and it turns out that it's not really my thing, would you like it?"

It's OK to say "I received this as a gift, but I don't care for it. Do you have any interest?"
That shows that you care about the other and are ready to give them something you received as a gift... for free. And if you don't enjoy the gift, someone else might as well.

However, it's not OK to pretend you bought the item, and give it as a gift.

If you present that honestly and they react "low-down & dirty", then that is one sleazy @$$ person who doesn't deserve to be your friend.
If you wrap it up like a gift, then that is bad on your part. Giving ANYTHING that you have no use for to someone who can use it is a good thing.

If you are just giving to a friend cos you don't want it that's ok. Can always say something like I got this but after listening to it thought it woud be more your thing etc. If you are giving it as a present not cool.

as long as your just giving it away - its not a gift - you cant give opened cd as a gift for a birthday you know
but hell i do it with my people all the time - whether its a cd, shoes that hurt the feet, a shirt that looks better on her -

as long as their not used underwear -

but if they dont appreciate it donate it to good will -

They're dumb if they do. Do you mean as a gift or just like giving a friend something u bought that didn't work out.
Either way I accept anything given to me graciously. I can always pass it on later.

If someone asked if they could give me a cd because they listened to it and didn't like it, I would say yes. However, if you wrapped it up and tried to give it to me for my birthday or Christmas, then that would be tacky.
