I've decided that it would be extremely difficult for anyone struggling to overcome an addiction of alcohol, and or drugs.

What do you think would make it such a hard thing to overcome? Emotionally, mentally, physically..

it think it's because when you first use whatever your addicted to it makes everything better. so the next time it should be better too. also I believe it because when someone is using whatever they're addicted to it makes them feel so good and when it's gone they feel really, really bad. If something made you feel so good or stopped making you feel so bad would you want it gone?

Addiction can be overcome in some ways.

For instance, if you're really are tired of a job, or the place you live, or the kinds of friends you have, you have the option of finding a better job, a better place, and new friends.

Similarly, to overcome addiction such as alcohol, drugs and even gambling, you must get away from it and find a hobby or sport you love - to replace it with your addiction time.

Remember, the first few days will be very hard for you, but if you stay with it and focus on your alternatives, you'll feel like a new-born baby in another world.

Another brief example is having a bad-tasting medicine, but in the end, you're feeling great again!

Hope this helps. Relax. And stay positive!

Sexual addiction is a label for a strong sex drive. Having a too strong of a sex drive can mess with relationships and hurt you. The help you recieve from professionals is always variable. Some people feel helped, others feel like it was a waste of money. If you're cheating on your wife, that's bad news, bad karma, and really bad crap. Overcoming sexual addiction starts with realizing that this isn't good for your life, try to control urges, day by day. Until you start to feel like you can go 3 days without and sexual activity. Then try 5 days. It's like overcoming fast food addiction, sure it's good, but its not good for you. And you can overcome it, just by avoiding it, and teaching your body that it doesn't need it as much.

Having overcome both drug and alcohol addiction, I will give my personal opinion. It is a blend. You start to escape your emotions. You continue to keep those emotions away. You then become mentally addicted because you know that it will help you forget the bad. Eventually there is a physical addiction. The best way to deal is to come to terms with the original reason you started and then start facing the results. This is why college students can drink themselves into an oblivion for years and then just stop...they were just looking for fun...and others can't stop after a few months.

So many factors go into this, the emotional desires to feel good, the physical cravings, the availability of the drug. Scientists have seen that the brains of addicts are different than people's brains that don't suffer addiction. Some people do really well when taking drugs that combat addiction, like methadone. In the long run, a person has to be ready and willing to quit, even if it means totally changing their lives around. I think it's like smoking, you are better off never to start, than to risk not being able to quit.

It's just hard because your body is so used to feeling the high that the drugs create. It just starts to feel like a normal thing after a while and it's really hard to face the come down after that. Your body reacts and goes cold turkey. Heroin and alcohol come downs can kill the person they are that bad.
And, a lot of people that do drugs aren't in stable situations because of the drugs, they don't have a job, maybe they don't have the best relationships with others so they have to figure all that out.

Allow me to paint a picture. You are nauseous, and cold, but sweating. You try to get under a blanket to get warm, but it is stifling and uncomfortable. Everything is uncomfortable. You can't lie down. Your favorite chair/couch/bed isn't even comfortable.
You can't sleep. Days of this. Can't eat either. You are tense, and depressed. More depressed than you have ever been. Wanna kill yourself so its over, because you feel like a worthless piece of trash depressed...
But you know how to make it all go away. One simple phone call, and it stops. All you have to do is cave in. Admit defeat and that it owns you, and your misery is over....
That's what its like to kick Heroin, Oxycontin, Morphine, Vicodin, or any of the opiates. It sux...
...but it can be done....

Your mind obsesses over it, and wont let you think clearly until youve given in to your addiction. People need to have an alternative, something they can have or do instead of the certain addiction. They have to learn to run from all temptations. And through it all, pray, because no one is strong enough to fight alone.
