You need to get it to a vet.

What did you bathe the kitten with...shampoo...detergent?? Did you rinse her well? Did you dry her well..wrap her in a nice warm towel? Dry her with a blow dryer?

It sounds very much like your kitten has an upper respiratory infection by the description of not being able to breathe well and the eyes matting. This is very serious, mainly because if a cat that cannot smell, it will not eat. When they don't eat, they lose strength.

Now, you may have shocked her system more by bathing her. She was weak already and probably has gotten cold from the water on her skin and fur.

If you have a vet office open where you are.... please take her now. Wrap her in a warm towel and go.

If you cannot get to a vet tonight, get a heating pad and several layers of towels. Put the towels over the heating pad and lay her on it. Lay another towel over her. Get her warmed up. Kittens normal body temperature is about 102-103 degrees. She should feel warm to your hand, if she feels cooler than your hand, that is not good.

Purrs and prayers for you, your daughter and the kitten.

It sounds like it was very sick even before you gave it the bath. It's possible that it lost body heat during the bath, and because it's ill it's having trouble recovering. I hope it's not dying but you should get it too a vet pronto. Even if it wasn't sick, it would need to go to the vet for shots, general health check up, etc. You don't really want your daughter handling a stray cat often because they can pick up a lot of different diseases. So definately take it to the vet.

First of all ----- get a clean cloth and wet it with LUKE warm water and rub it's eye. Do this -- two or three times thru out the day. If the cat was found outside ----it would not hurt to give the cat a bath in luke warm water but remember one thing ---- keep it's head above the water. Go to Walmart or somewhere and get some shampoo. During or before call a local vet and ask them for some free local advice for some of the symtoms you described. Just guessing ---- hidden fleas or tics could be bothering the cat.

I am wondering how old this kitten is.

If it is really small, ears are really small and funny looking, then you have a baby baby that needs special attention.
Bathing a kitten is not a good idea. Poor baby probably caught a cold or something now because it could not warm itself up after the bath. Kittens have a hard time keeping warm or cooling off, their mamma usually takes care of this for them.
It sounds like this little guy needs to go see a vet as soon as possible.

I'm sorry if this seems rude or being a smart *** that's not my intent, but what would you do if your daughter had her eyes matted shut then after giving her a bath she couldn't walk & then fell over?? You'd take her to the doctor. So if taking this kitten to the vet happens to be above your means, then take the baby to the Humane Society.

This kitten is very seriously ill. My advice is to take it to the vet immediately. It's never a good idea to bath a sick animal. She probably is running a fever and being wet made her get chilled- thus the shaking. You're going to lose this kitten if you delay getting her to the vet.

Maybe warm the towl in the dryer and bundle it up and make sure it is getting enough milk. Keep the eyes cleaned with a warm damp cloth.

And or if you can afford to take it to the vet to have it checked out would be the best bet.

Good luck

Take the kitten to a vet as soon as possible, could be suffering from an upper respiratory infection based on eyes and breathing issues...not sure what falling over is all about...has it eaten? Supplemental cats milk or mealy food may work.

he's probably sick and needs a vet

keep in a warm blanket becasue he could have a cold or a fever, just like humans do.

buy some kitten formula and a bottle and nurse him - if he doesn't drink, open the mouth gently with your finger and trinkle a few drops of milk (formula) into his mouth - he might throw it up but keep trying a few times until his stomach accepts it

poor baby - I hope he gets better

Your kitten is dying from a upper respiratory infection and it sounds like it is to late.
