Speaking from memory.....and off the top of my head... a couple of things stick out in my mind:

1. Trust in God!
2. When God does something for you......shout it from the roof tops!

To me it shows what a man of faith acts like, Tobit being the man of faith.

It also has an odd sort of interaction with an angel; Raphael.

Why is it important? Can't think of much. I thought it was a good story, hardly on par with scripture, but it was a fun story to read.
