It usually means they have an itchy butt. This can be caused by worms, so try a worm treatment

your dogs got worms.this will sound nasty but you have to monitor its bowel movements.when you take your pooch outside take a stick or something to break apart the feces and check for lil squiggles.if its got them you can either buy wormer or you can feed your dog some tobacco from a ciggarette. i know it mind sound mean but you'll have to feed it to him and keep his mouth closed gently cause he'll try to get sick. have water and food nearby for him and he'll keep it down. the tobacco will automaticaly kill the worms and they'll be gone in a day or two. ive done it with all my pets. it works

if he just got groomed recently it means he or she is unconftorable because a gland in their behind was cleaned out and is now irratated. also it could mean the hair around his behind has been cut too short and his behind feels to aired out and free. it can also mean that he needs to go to the bathroom or he has some poop on his behind.

A dog has sent glands near his anus. They add sent to his droppings. The glands are clogged up. Take him to the vet, and he will squeeze them out.

He's using your carpet as toilet paper. It wouldn't hurt to check for worms, too.
