I don't think it is mathematically possible. In order for life expectancy to increase by a full year during a one-year period, wouldn't fewer than zero people have to die during that year?

No, I suppose not -- life expectancy is not just impacted by deaths this year, but by the projected deaths in future years. If someone released complete cures for heart disease, Alzheimer's, all cancers during a single year, then I think that life expectancy would probably rise by more than a year during that year.

But, to answer the question asked, I absolutely do not believe there will EVER be a year when life expectancy increases by a full year during a single-year period. I doubt there will be a year when life expectancy will increase by 6 months or more. (I am excluding some exotic possibilities as, "all known diseases are cured in one year by a single discovery or by space aliens.")

In fact, I expect that during the next decade, we will probably have one or more years when the actuarial life expectancy of Americans actually declines (due to increased obesity, toxic chemicals, or effects of global warming).

well there are limits...

humans will never live much longer on average then 100 yrs no matter what kind of medical and health break-throughs we make.

our bodies cells replicate and they are programmed to do this a finite amount of times. After that magic number has arrived they start to die off.

we can maximize life but we can't escape the hands of time

on a long chart ...life expectancy would resemble a hump...were people start to live longer but then nature again finds it's eqillibrium and life expectancy starts to decline again slightly.....it's natures plan

I think with the obesity rate we are going to see life expectancy to decrease. And we are seeing that happen right now.
Unless, the fat generation doesn't stop porking out, we as a human race are going to cease to exist.
