I dont believe people can talk to the dead but I am confused about what is going on here. Is it an evil spirit,the witch tricking Saul, God, or is Saul dreaming or tripping? I find alot of things disturbing about this whole book. What are your ideas?

GOD Forbids "US" to Contact the Dead.
It is O.K. if GOD Allows it for us.
It is Possible--- that's why GOD Forbids US to do it, but if HE says O.K. and Arranges it, it is Fine.
The Witch conqured up Saul for real.
That got Saul into Trouble (Saul broke Spiritual Laws and Reaped what he Sowed).
GOD dosen't give us Commandments to Control us, GOD gives us Commandments so we can get Blessed by Operating the "Spiritual Laws" of this Earth in a Positive Way.
These Laws were Put into the Earth BEFOR Mankind was Created.

I believe that it is either a demon tricking Saul, but more probably it was actually Samuel on this occasion. Note the witch's surprise and her response to Saul when Samuel appeared, as if she wasn't expecting him. I think this was an exception rather then the rule in this case as I don't think God allows such things. But also note the Transfiguration in the New Testament when Jesus talks to Elijah and Moses. So it happened then too.

When Saul was sane, he adhered to a ban on witchcraft and consulting witches as directed by the laws of God. But as Saul got older, he became really paranoid and exhibited other signs of mental illness, and in an act of SIN, visited this witch to see if he could hear from the prophet about the future. He was wrong to do this.

God tricked Saul and the witch of Endor.
Samuel showed up. God brought this to fruition.

I believe they are actually talking to the dead. There is power in the dark realm of sorcery. That is why God tells us to stay away from it.

I think it's Samuel...and he's not too happy about it. I believe that we CAN....but it is forbidden - because you never know what you are gonna get in that realm (demon, whatever,,,)
