My big, open spaced room would be filled with plants and winds chimes......wind chimes everywhere....it would be so peaceful and the delicate chimes would whisk you away to a place of solitude and contentment.

Okay, I think even you know your question sounds stupid. BUT if you want to fill a room that will make your "heart feel glad" fill it with colours you remember from childhood. Pictures or momentos that please YOU to look at. I am an Interior Designer and I know how to make a picture perfect living space, but you have to want to "snuggle down" in it, it's your reflection of what makes happy and who you are. Go for shag carpet or hot pink drapes. There are no rules, except, don't make it too tacky ( kidding ) The biggest mistake in Interior Design is being too timid. You will never be sorry for going over the edge. Pick a theme and run with it, you can always remove what you feel is too much.
Good luck with your project.

Sunshine
Photos of loved ones who have died.
A soft cuddly pet.
Laughter.
No electronics mechanisms.
Put all that in the living room.
The other rooms I would leave like they are, don't like too much clutter.
Though in the bedrooms I would like to have my children back in as little kids again, but only if I were as young in comparison. It would also be nice to have a few more of them, not just 2.
