How does your sense of smell effect your taste? I understand what smells good is usually good so you have an idea in your head that what your about to eat is good. But nasty smelling items isn't always nasty!

I hated taking cough medicine as a child.
So I use to hold my nose when I took it.
That really helped.
Smell is a big part of taste!

I heard that Darien fruit smells bad but tastes really sweet.
I have to try one. (**)

I'm not sure how it works, but they are connected. If I have a cold, and I can't breathe, I can't taste, either.

I have a supreme sense of smell. I can smell where my husband has been, whether the milk is fresh, and whether the pork is tainted. In this one thing, I am totally better than my guy.

Your 'taste buds' don't actually taste. They can only determine between acid, sweet and sour. It's your olfactory (sense of smell) that detects actual flavours. (Those guys sniffing wine aren't being pretentious -- you really can tell most about what a wine is going to taste like with your nose.)

Smelling is VERY important. If you cannot smell (your sense of smell doesn't work), then you cannot taste. Your sense of taste IS dependent on how well your sense of smell is!

Your taste and smell are depend on each other.

I don't know how to answer your question, but you could try this for fun.

Find a nice wine you enjoy.

Sip it.
Good itsn't it?

Now try that again with your nose plugged.

Not so good isn't.

your sense of smell is in a big way part of your ability to taste. People with stuffed up sinuses can't taste anything. as they basically can't smell it either.
