I am 17 and a junior in high school.
I have recently begun voice lessons. Recently meaning, I have only been taking them 1 month.
It is my dream to be a vocal major in college.
To do this I would have to audition in the spring semester of my senior year.
So I would have only been singing for a little over a year.
Is it possible for me to be a vocal major?

I think so, if you work hard. I heard that, for example. opera teachers dont usually even take students till thier voice has matured. Good luck and keep singing!

Of course, I have never heard you sing so I cannot say for sure. But, I didn't start taking voice lessons until I was a freshman in college. At 21 I changed my major to vocal performance. I have been singing professionally for 10 years now for one of the largest opera companies in the world. And it is only getting better.
Does that help?

It's completely possible. However, your odds of getting into the most competitive conservatories are slim. You could get in as a voice major at a state university, probably.

Keep doing the voice lessons, but also educate yourself more broadly about music. Get piano classes or lessons--voice majors especially will need solid piano skills, but all music majors are required to pass the dreaded "piano proficiency exam" before graduation. The piano playing will improve your sense of rhythm and your ability to read music--something that many voice majors sadly lack (I've been in rehearsals with a major symphony orchestra where the featured guest tenor didn't know where to enter--couldn't read the music!).

In some schools, you can start out as a general music major, get your other requirements out of the way while taking voice, then you can switch to vocal major.

Sure why not, what is your present teacher saying.... that's who's advice you should take...you said that you have to audition in the spring....you have plenty of time.....a year will give you the basics and should be enough to tell if you have what it takes, good luck, I hope that you make it....I know what it's like to have a dream in a musical career, I play classical guitar !!!!!!!!!
