Depends on what you d/l. I've gotten a few files with Jeefo.A virus, but as long as you run a decent anti-virus program it will catch it no problem and you just don't run the file.

Anything you can download from the internet has the possibility of having a virus. Downloading from a P2P (peer to peer) has an even higher likelihood of having a virus.

If your downloading music, videos, or pics, your fairly safe. There have been a few attempts at putting viruses in media, but for the most part your safe. If you are downloading movies, stay way from WMV and MOV. They can open up your browser to unsafe sites and throught Active-X can cause you to download a virus.

The files I stay away from on e-mule are

exe - [extremely high risk]
zip - (or any archive file type) - [fairly high risk]
wmv - (a majority of wmv will require a license that will open a website) [medium to high risk depends on the website]
mov - (a newer trend, mostly opens ads and not really a virus, can solve this issue if you use another media player other than quicktime, like VLC) [low]
wma - (the same issues as wmv, but on a much lesser scale, I would say your pretty safe with wma) [low]

your pretty safe with mp3, mpg, avi and any image files. The most important thing is to use a good anti-virus and firewall program from Norton or McAfee. most freeware anti-virus I'm not crazy about, but zonelabs has a great free firewall called zonealarm. The firewall is the most important item when using a p2p, it will block people from attacking your computer.

Use an anti-virus and a firewall; and download smart, you should not have any problems. I have been using emule for years and have only found a few virus and they were detected long before they could cause a problem.

The program itself is virus free, so you don't have to worry about getting infected just from installing it- but the networks that it transfers files over are anything but! You're transferring files between other users of eMule, and their machines could easily be sharing virus-infected files. Malware, viruses and other crap are quite abundant on P2P networks...

it's a p2p program. emule doesn't give out viruses. it's the shares. other people (who got nothing to do in life) share files that are virus-infected. always be careful in downloading.

I found a free download of Emule here http://bitly.com/1rmsiEn

It is a open source P2P client that allows you to search and share files with other eMule users and to download movies, music and many other media file types.
