Clarification needed. Old Testament laws were given the people, more specifically the Israelites, to not only help them to live a righteous life, but also to show them their short-coming. Through out the Bible, both Old and New Testament, people continued to fail in their attempt follow spiritual "laws". Those who attempt to impose these laws on others without consideration for circumstances were seen as legalist. God knowing that the people cannot live a life by following the Ten Commandments (and other laws) has sent Jesus to our world as a sacrificial lamb for the sins of man. (God has required the people to make a perfect sacrifice for the sins committed.) The New Testament's first four Gospel talks of the good news, which refers to Jesus dying in the place of all sinners in the world. This is good news because people no longer need to die for their sins. The only requirement is for the sinner, through faith, accept the gift of Jesus' death, and repent of their sins.
The Ten Commandments can be found in the Old Testament, in the second book Exodus 20:1-17. (One needs to understand that, for example, when the commandment says, one does not commit murder, it is not only literal. If one has hate in their heart for someone, that itself may constitute murder. Hence, the difficulties in following the Ten Commandments. And, hence, why there are difficulties in remembering these commandments. Christians live by grace not law.)

Unlike Christians, murder and adultery is acceptable to Atheists? Is this what I am getting from this question?
I'm not a Christian but those commandments would actually be all the law society really needs.

Who are "Most" Christians? Christ taught that we should, "Do for others as we would have others do for us" and "Love your neighbor as yourself for this is the whole of the Law". There are hundreds, even thousands of commandments in the Bible, not just the Decalogue. Why should a Christian have to memorize the Law instead of living by the principle of Love as Christ taught?

I don't have to follow the 10 commandants. As a Christian I only have two commandments to concern myself with:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your mind and all your spirit; and love your neighbor as yourself.
On these two rest all The Law and The Prophets.

First 3 has to do with respecting God and listening to him and not worshping Idols.
Setting aside time to go to church and study the bible.
Called the Sabath law.
Honor your father and mother that meant taking care of them in their old age. didn't have Social Security which is a much better idea it gives them a dignified way to sustain themselves in old age. So we should take care of old people.
Don't kill people, don't have sex with someone your not married to. You should be a husband of one wife.
You shouldn't lie or steal or be materialistic and want everything you see. It goes to your desires, or feelings.
Like desireing to be rich. desireing someone elses wife.
Like that. See we know them, are parents drum them into us.

This really is off the top of my head. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's possessions. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife. Honor thy mother and father. Keep the Sabbath holy. Thou shalt not take the Lord thy God's name in vain. Darn it, I can only remember 9. I think Thou shall not commit adultery is one as well, but the neighbor's wife thing should cover that.

Thou shalt kill,
thou shalt not steal,
thou shalt honor thy father and mother,
thou shalt not covet blah blah blah,
thou shalt not commit adultery,
thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself
...the only six commandments worth mentioning.
Edit: crap....sixth one is part of the covet thing I think (if it exists at all...which it should, perhaps the only thing resembling morality aside from the golden rule). Should be thou shalt not bear false witness....oh well, not bad for having never read the Bible...
