I've heard some Christians say that if there were no promise of eternal life in Heaven, then they would have no reason to be moral! In their minds, with no promise of Heaven or threat of Hell, everything would be allowed... Contrast that with the attitude of most Atheists, who believe in doing good for its OWN sake? Don't you think that makes them more truely moral?

All organized religion is about oppression, controlling people so they don't do this or that, and remember to give them your money. If they can't use the carrot to get you to do what they want, the priests will use the threat of fire, metaphor or inquisition style. Moral? In the history of the world, every method used by others to make people moral has been decidedly immoral. Put your dusty book away and ignore the rants of people who believe in vengeful sky elves.

Challenge yourself, do the hard thing, look at the facts, make a decision and take responsibility for it. Thats moral.

That's is why some atheist view some Christians hypocritical and Pascal's Wager a farce.

Of course it would be more appropriate to doing good for the sake of good itself, rather than trying to curry favour with their imaginary Sky Father.

It is also because of this argument, that atheist used, for if they are condemned to hell even if they are more moral than the "proclaimed" Christians, than their God must be more concerned with stoking His vanity since He only rescue His faithful

Sure. If that's the only reason that someone is behaving a certain way, God knows it. He looks on our hearts, not just on our actions. Not everyone who thinks they will make it to Heaven will actually be there and not everyone who people think are Hell-bound will end up there. God sees the truth.

I would say that using the word morality in terms of doing things to avoid hell and earn salvation is perhaps the worst thing we can do to degrade its meaning.

Totally agreed! My "slogan" is actually right along those lines.

"I am good for the sake of being good to my fellow human, NOT for some eternal reward!"

I'm in a crappy mood tonight, so get bent. God loves you despite your bad attitude. Quit trying to mess with the Christians.

God teaching mankind morality is what makes us different from any other wild animal species God has made on Earth.
