In basic training, do they still have the three day challenge where you're not allowed to eat or sleep for 72 hours and you're out hiking?

in the marine corps basic training they have what they call "the crucible." in 72 hours you get 3 M.R.E's, sleep maybe 2 to 3 hours a night and yes, do a lot of hiking and physical and mental challenging obstacle courses.

Band of Brothers series. Opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan. Believe it or not, part of Pauly Shore's In the Army. The basic training in that movie is similar to Army basic now.

Actually, in boot camp recruits get a minimum of one meal a day and one hour of sleep a night. In Navy bootcamp, I had three meals a day and at least five hours of sleep each night (except for the first night).

However, the were a few times onboard the ship, I went without sleep and food for over 24 hours.

The 3 day challenge, or field exercise, is a week long now. However, the notion that they don't let you eat or sleep is completely false. You will get very little sleep, but you'll sleep. You won't have much time to eat, but you won't starve. Really not that difficult.

You probably should say WHICH basic training.
Which country?
Which military?
regular service or specialized?
Such as; if you were asking about USA then that matters, if you are asking about Air Force then that matters, and if you were talking about ParaRescue in the US Air Force then that really matters quite abit.
