This is a gastric by pass surgery. I'm not talking about the lap band procedure.
This is the one where they give you a list of all the things that can go wrong & death is a the bottom of the list.
I understand that AMA was trying to get this surgery banned because of the high mortality rate.
I had mine done in 1998.

i had the roux en y done 3-27-07.have 43 lbs more to go to get to goal weight & only prob now is possibly getting hernia. a friend of my husband's had the duodenal switch done last year. so far he has lost over 250 lbs. he said it's like they say with the switch.extra gas and needs airfreshener. i hope your's is going great.

I'm not sure what you are trying to find out...The biggest long-term concern post surgery with BPD is that you have to take the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, & K) and iron as supplements for the rest of your life. It has the best weight loss success rates in the least amount of time. Any bariatric surgery is dangerous and you have to consider the risks and benefits beforehand. As far as I know, BPD is considered no more dangerous than other procedures...but it does involve removal of the gall bladder.
