Since they are two different medications, the dosage might be completely different. Just ask your vet about changing, you can probably even call and ask without making an appointment. You wouldn't want to give him a huge dose of Loratadine, just because you weren't sure.

You should probably just give the dog what the vet prescribed, or else what's the point of going to the vet?

DO NOT substitute any meds without talking to your vet first. He prescribed that particular med for a reason, and you might be putting your dogs health in jeopardy if you change it.

NO!! Prednisone is a steroid. Loratidine is an antihistamine. Totally different drugs.
It is also especially dangerous to assume that different drugs can be given at the same dosage.
Do not give your dog any Loratidine. It is not even approved for use in dogs.

Call the vet, he/she may tell you can try benedryl for the allergies. But I wouldn't do anything without getting in contact with the vet first

VERY BAD IDEA!!! Give your pooch what the vet prescribed, nothing else! Body chemistry is NOT the same for humans and canines.

Contrary to popular belief, you dog's meds are different than yours. That's why you don't take your dog to the doctor and you don't go to the vet!!! Give him his own meds.~

For one thing, you should never just take your dog off of Pred. They have to be weaned off of it. Don't substitue unless your Vet tells you to. If your dog has run out of Pred, please let your Vet know. It is quite harmful to just stop Pred when your dog has been on it.
