Does anyone know the details involved in emigrating to the US from Australia?

I have an Australian friend who is interested in emigrating, and although he is pursuing the proper channels, I thought it would be fun to ask this question here.

I dont know the proper way. I saw a movie recently and they drove in via Canada.. seems as good a route as any other and you can get a lil skiing in on the way.

Australians can go anywhere can't they? I mean, didnt you see those Aussie dudes, one dressed as Osama bin Laden and the others jogging along next to the car with Canadian flags flying.. they got real close.
