Paul also says, "Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing." (1 Corinthians 7:19) I think Paul's point is that it really doesn't do anything for you either way.

Circumcision is not an abomination.
Paul is writing to Christians in the region of Galatia in Asia Minor. As Paul traveled, "Judaizers" followed him and attempted to teach new Christians that they must follow the Old Testament Laws to be a Christian, since at the time, Christianity was often considered to be a sect of Judaism.
Put Gal. 5:2 in context with Galatians 1:6-9. His admonishment in chapter 5 refers to circumcision as a Jewish ritual. In Genesis, circumcision started as a token of the covenant between God and the Jews. Therefore, new Gentile Christians were not under that law because they were not Jews.

Unlud,
You are taking this out of perspective. They were claiming that the Gentiles had to be circumcised and that was NOT a part of being a Christian. It was only under the Jewish Law. Read the rest of the Chapter also and you will see what I mean. Have a great week.
Thanks,

In other words, if you take on the outward signs of Judaism, Christ will profit you nothing.
The strange thing is that there are folks who are doing that very thing today...
"Messianic Jews"...
Now, it is one thing, if you were born Jewish, and later on, converted to Christianity.
But it is something else again if you never were Jewish, but you think you have to learn Jewish traditions and celebrate Jewish feasts. You do no honor to Christ by this.
When you put "religion" in the place of Christ, then Christ profits you nothing....

What about babies that get circumcised when their in the hospital? Both my sons had this done. I think it is more of a question of hygiene. I highly doubt God has anything against circumcision.
