I haven't been in YahooAnswers long, but I have been in it long enough to see people blow up if they see a question about a certain religion. Why? I don't understand. My family taught my just to accept people for who they are.

The forerunner to Anger is a mental factor called Inappropriate Attention. *Inaprropriate Attention exaggerates the negative qualties of a person, object, situation, or idea and projects onto it negative qualties that are not really there, thus creating an incorrect story about it.

*There is an excellent book out called:
"Working With Anger" - teaching effective techniques on How to Cultivate Patience-which is the alternative to anger; teaches what to do when our buttons are pushed; how to effectively cope with negative criticism; letting go of grudges and resentments; teaches how to cultivate love, gentleness, kindness and compassion toward others 'and' ourselves. *Thubten Chodron, the author of this book - defines Patience as the ability to remain internally and externally calm and undisturbed in the face of harm and difficulties in life. *Patience is a quality we all - as human beings - need to develop more of, in our lives.

I'd like to know why people are so defensive about their religion in the first place. Can't their gods take care of themselves? You think people are angry in Y!A? Try Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Pakistan v. India, and the Sahel region of Africa.

Richard Dawkins has noted that religion, if nothing else, is divisive. I'm just puzzled at why that is.

Hmm...I'm not sure...
I guess some people think that their religion is better than others, or they just like to cause trouble.
Maybe they got upset about something and they take it out on you.
Maybe they grew up learning that their religion is best and everybody else should follow it, too.

I honestly don't know!

Your family taught you to just accept people for who they are. I agree with them.

Unfortunately, many people here don't and they post really stupid and insensitive posts about particular religions. Why can't they just accept their cultural and religious belief?

Because of people like this it is enought for others to blow up.

How dare people ask religious questions in a Religion and Spirituality forum!

its strange i know. god forbid (using as an expression only) a question about religion being asked in the "religion and spirituality" section. there are really only a few people who get all stressed out about it, ignore them and you will be ok.

sometimes ts anger other times its passion. we get passionate about answering questions. We do try to be nice to people asking genuine questions though when they are simple. A lot of people ask questions just to make other people angry.

Well, if you're religious you probably believe there is a God. If there is a God, there is a devil. They are at war with each other. You'll see it played out amongst humans every single day of your life. Everywhere.

So, I guess you've been here for ten minutes or more, then. Get used to it, it's part of the rhythm here, and not everyone had a tolerant upbringing. Be yourself, and you'll be fine here...
