Based on a friend's recent hospital visit, she states that the emergency room could not turn her away and they took care of her. She was advised that if she applied for the state program for medical within 30 days, she would be covered. She followed what they said, and it was true. Might be different in your state. She was "dirt poor" too and had such low income, she qualified with no problems.

Depends on what state you live in and how dirt poor you really are. All hospitals have to accept you in the emergency room and provide treatment even if you dont have insurance. If you have no income or insurance, they will eventually write off the costs.

If you have kids you can apply for Medicaid, but if not, you can't get it. I know in the state of Virginia. Try going to a free clinic and see what they can do for you. They may have some programs for adults if you need surgery.

Some clinics and hospitals see people on an emergency basis , on a sliding scale .

Go to the local emergency room and tell them you do not have insurance or $$$$ , but broke your hand .
Sometimes there are programs to cover it also .

Sorry about that . . .
