According to Dreamcrowd:
To see your boyfriend in your dream, represents your waking relationship with him and how you feel about him. To dream that your boyfriend is dead, indicates that something in your own Self that is no longer functional and is "dead". You are not being allowed to fully express yourself. It is also symbolic of your own relationship with that person. Perhaps you need to let go of this relationship. If your boyfriend is away and your dreams of him involve a lot of touching, signify how much you miss his presence and have him being nearby. The dream is telling you not to take the day to day things for granted. Learn to cherish the smaller things in life. To dream that your boyfriend tells you that he is gay or that he doesn't love your anymore, represents your own insecurities with the relationship. It may also mean that the relationship is moving to a new level to which you are expressing some anxiety and fears about the changing situation. You may feel left out it in his life or that you are unable to share in all his experiences. It boils down to trust and communication.

Dreams are often believed to be subconscious thoughts. Dreams are also often believed to be to at times relay messages. In my personal opinion, this maybe his subconscious mind stating his inner most feelings but I prefer the latter in that it is quite possibly his subconscious mind preparing his conscious-self to how he could or would handle a break-up with you. This maybe something that he struggles with internally and has a deep fear of losing the close connection he has established with you. I think you are in good shape cause he told you....open (non-confrontational) dialogue is the best way to keep a healthy long lasting relationship.

I didn't know relationships had brakes and accelerators.
I think he has a hidden fear of separation from you or I can tell you the worst case scenario....
Here goes... he wants to break so he tells you this as a sign.

Perhaps he wants to break up with you, but he doesn't want to be the one to bring it up, so he thinks if he disguises the topic as a "dream", it will create a conversation that will lead to his desired outcome without him actually having to break up himself.

Sounds like he is insecure about your intentions toward him, or about his ability to sustain the relationship....
