My daughters were born 3 days after Holloween and were almost a year on their first one. We took pictures and let them run around the house in these little cat costumes. They got VERY excited every time the doorbell rang and loved seeing all the kids. My sister came over and brought these two tee-shirts..one that said Trick and the other said Treat. We put the girls hands in orange paint and then put them on the shirt (We still have them in this picture frame thing, almost 17yrs later and put it out during Holloween) We went with my neice trick or treating, who was at the time 3yrs and pushed my girls around the strollers for a little while (they eventually fell asleep)
I wouldn't go crazy. I can be tiring as you'll find out in the years to come. Enjoy it though =]
Best Wishes

My first son was exactly one week old his first halloween. We found a little sleeper outfit that make it look like he was wearing a ghost on his belly and legs. I didn't take him out but we lived in a close nit neighborhood so all the parents walking around with their little ones came in the house to see him. I also gave him a safety sucker. It was halloween after all lol.
The other two were spring babies so were 6 months old for halloween. Until they were big enough to walk on their own, they got to go see a few people and rest of the time help grandma hand out treats.
He'll have lots of fun and if you know several people with kids about his age, invite a few over for a pre- Halloween party for the little ones. Just hanging out, showing off their costumes is fun. Pop in a DVD of It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and they'll all have a great time.

Of course it's for the parents gratification. The same as when you celebrate a 1st birthday, or Christmas. They certainly not going to remember, but there is nothing wrong with doing it. Is it okay to take a baby to house after house getting candy they aren't going to eat? The answer is yes, IF the child is having fun. Babies love seeing new things. And people in crazy costumes would be right up their alley. That being said, if it is cold outside, or the baby is not liking it, then I would never subject my child to that. Personally, I am taking my 11 month old to a thing called "Mall-o-Ween" where all the stores in the mall give out candy. She won't be outside, and she loves watching other children. And the candy will be entering MY mouth...LOL

My daughter was almost 2 months old at her first halloween, and I went out with my neice (who was 3), my sister and my dad just to a few houses in my dad's neighborhood. I didn't take any candy for Addie, but everyone loved seeing her cute Pumpkin' costume. This year we're going to a party, so I don't have to worry, but if she could walk well enough I would probably take her out to a few houses. I liked going out with my sister and neice though because I didn't feel silly walking around with an infant. It felt like I was just there for my neice and brought my daugher along for a walk :)

My daughter was born in August, so she was in the same situation as your son. For her first halloween we got her a cute costume and took her with her brother when he went trick-or-treating. She didn't get candy, but she enjoyed the attention she got from everyone. This year we're all going to the mall for trick-or-treating. It's well-lit and monitored, and if she gets tired we can always stop. I don't really expect her to say trick or treat, but she can walk around with her bucket and get some candy. If she gets bored, no big deal. She's too young to have lots of candy anyway. It won't hurt her just to walk around in her costume and explore a little bit.

Well i took my daughter trick or treating with my younger brother and sister, i dressed her up as a mermaid (she was 3 months at the time) and then we went home to take pics. This year she'll be 14 months and we'll proly do the same thing again. It will be fun for her at the time, and she may not remember it, but we will and we will remember how much fun she had! Halloween is a big deal for us and i want her to love it as much as we do!

My son was 7 mos for his first halloween, we dressed him up and walked around w/ my little brothers. He was 19 mos for his second halloween and that time he got to go trick or treating, he went to quite a few houses and just had fun knocking on doors. I think your child will be fine to take to a few houses. He'll have fun. Although you are right he probably won't remember it, but thats what pictures are for. Have fun!!!

My daughter was 5 mo. old her first halloween. I dressed her up as a bumble bee and took her tricker treating to peoples houses that I knew. On her second halloween she was dressed up as a witch (17 mo.) That year we took her down our street and that was it. Last year at 2 1/2 years old she was scared to go untill she started seeing all of the other kids doing it. Then she really enjoyed it. This year she's ready to find a costume all ready. I hope this helps.

On my sons first Halloween, he was 8 months old. I just dressed him up as a pumpkin and took pictures. Last year, he was 20 months and was old enough to really enjoy the occasion. We went to the church (where he attends daycare) and they had dozens of booths set up w/ candy for the trick-or-treaters. Then, we went out to my parents house and grandma's house to trick-or-treat. This year should be even more fun.
I would go to your family and close friends (& neighbors) to trick-or-treat and then do more next year.
Have fun!
