You're teeth don't hurt that much the first day, but in the next day or so, you'll probably feel it more. Try not to let the pain bother you or interfere with your regular eating habits. The less you let it bother you now, the faster the pain will go away. It usually takes 4-7 days for the pain to go away completely.

You should generally have three brushes, and floss threaders, all of which you should be able to get at places like Target or Walgreens: A regular toothbrush for overall cleaning, a thin gum brush to clean the "shelves" of the braces, and a thin pointed brush that looks like a Christmas tree to get under the wires. The floss threaders make it easier to floss and have to go under the wire also. Otherwise you aren't getting to the gumline. It will probably take you 5 minutes to brush your teeth now, but don't slack. Keep to the regimine, otherwise you will end up with absolutely horrible stains. Remember, for 2 years, parts of your teeth will not be exposed to all of the food you will be eating. Keep them clean!

You can eat anything as long as it isn't sticky or hard. Stay away from things like milk duds, caramel, gum, and other chewy candy. Don't chew ice, jaw breakers (lol), peanut brittle, or other hard foods. Also, cut apples and other hard foods that you have to bite into into smaller pieces, so you don't cause unnecessary tension on the brackets.

Playing the clarinet is perfectly fine. I played with braces for 2 years. It just hurts when your braces are adjusted, but the less you let that get to you, the sooner you can play easily again.

Again, biting down will hurt for a while after adjustments, but if you eat regular foods and try to not let the pain bother you, it will fade faster and you can go back to living a good, delicious life.

Enjoy your new chains. It's the best feeling having them taken off, and it'll be even better if you KEEP BRUSHING WELL!!! (sorry, I can't stress that enough)

Sorry for the long answer but everything's there.

Some may hurt while others dont. It depends on what they are pushing the most. It's totally normal if they hurt like you know what the very first week :). Try eating soup, and if you can't do that then broth. You could also eat yougurts, or bannans. It's okay to play the clarinet but it might hurt. You just have to tough it out :(. If your teeth don't hurt too much when you bite down, that's okay (if that's what you were asking). The first day I got my braces, I was eating steak, lol

PS: Advil or tylenol works great, or gel from the store to help numb the pain.

They may hurt more later and sometimes they will scrape the sides of your mouth. I used to get wax from my orthodontist to cover the pokey bits. But hey, maybe you are lucky and they won't hurt you.

As to food, just think about what could possibly damage your braces or get caught in them and be hard to clean off. Hard crunchy things and overly chewy things are mainly what you're not supposed to eat. (Eg. no gummy candy, gum, toffee, raw apples, peanut brittle.. those sorts of things.)

You should have gotten a special littlebrush for cleaning between your braces and your teeth that looks kinda like a little tiny piece of pipecleaner onna stick. Remember braces tend to get food stuck in them, so you have to be a little more religious than usual about brushing.

I don't know anything specific about clarinets because I never played one.

When i first got my braces, it hurt a bit and also caused my gums and lips to turn sore and ulcers appear. As times goes by, i got used to it and the pain decreased. But the tightness was always there after a dentist check-up. You have to brush properly and daily to prevent tooth decay which i am having now. Just avoid sticky and chewy stuffs that can get stuck in between the braces.

clarinets will play if you have braces , i had the same problem with top braces and i played the clarinet, it isnt supposed to really hurt, it didnt me!! it will not hurt to play, and u cannot eat laffy taffy, or anything that can be very very chewy, but something like meat would be fine. hardly eat candy and always brush ur teeth

i have braces and i expected them to hurt really bad at first but they didnt. they may be a little sore wen eating and such (u said that) that's how mine were to but wont hurt that bad. The worst part is that they tear up your gums sometimes so be sure to put wax on them if they start to hurt at all. Clarinet should be fine. Also when you first go in to get them tightened take an Advil cuz thats wen they really hurt!
