As far as I know, Sony'll remove RSX chip (it deals with PS2/PS1 games). European version didn't have that chip since the beginning. PS2/PS1 games run on software emulation on those systems. Now Sony wants to remove that chip in US and Japanese versions in order to decrease production costs. There were rumors, that 80 gb version'll have different wi-fi antenna. In my opinion, get yourself 60 gb with RSX, then install different 2.5" HDD (it's easy). Although, I own 60 gb version and it's more, than enough space for me with a couple of demos and a lot of saves.

well, in my mind, the 60 gb is the better buy because it supports 97% of all ps2/ps1 games because it has a ps2 chip in it. the 80 gb doesn't have the chip, so you have to update it via online to get the latest update. right now, only about 80% of all ps2/ps1 games can be played on the 80 gb ps3, but that is after you get the latest update. so that's why the 60 gb is better than the 80 gb.

The 60 gb is more compatible with PSX and PS2 games because it has the emotion engine, which was used for PS2 games.
The 80 gb version had the emotion engine removed, so it uses software emulation for backward compatibility. We all know how well software emulation works for the 360 and backward compatibility.
The 60 gb has better backward compatibility than the 80 gb version.

the 60 gig has a chip in it that allows you to play ps2 and ps1 games. the 80 gig allows you to play the ps2 and ps1 games through updates, kind of like the 360 and it's update that lets you play old xbox games

its the same thing. exactly. Only the hard drive capacity is different. In fact, you could buy a cheap one and put your own hard drive in it.
