someone? If you are able to message back and forth through the service, is there a reason you should or shouldn't give your e-mail to a stranger? I feel uncomfortable when the guys ask right away for my e-mail address or give me theirs. Is my feeling legitimate?

Keep emailing through the service until you feel comfortable. They want to get your home email a lot of times because the service might charge for each email. Just tell them on line that you'd rather not give your email until another time.
Email is pretty safe though, unless your name shows up in a signature or in the address. Be sure to check your settings to make sure your name doesn't show up.
You could also set up a separate email address just for your online dating life.
Good luck. I met my sweetie this way. I think it's a great way to meet people that at least have your common interests on paper! But you gotta meet a lot of frogs sometimes before a nice prince comes along. :-)

If you use the e-mail address for anything else, creeps online might google it and find out things about you you'd prefer they didn't know, so yeah, I think your feeling's pretty legitimate.

However, most of the guys are probably normal and not out to stalk you--they just find e-mail to be easier and more convenient than having to use the service to message you. Any guy worth talking to should understand your concerns and continue talking to you on the service only until you're comfortable with him, but if it would make you feel better, get an e-mail address that you only use for online dating.

yes it is legitimate --- especially for the ladies --- never give your email on one of these sites --- if the conversations that you have with someone are interesting and you want to get to know them better get their email and see what happens --- why not create a specific dating email then if you get too many crazies you can delete the account ---- best wishes

yes.

they are probably too cheap to pay for the service. the free ones limit your emails, if they allow them at all.

go through the service a few times, then , if you like him, set up a yahoo account just for him. then give it to him. you can always just walk from it.

Well, email addresses can give you some privacy and personal space. Remember, you can always block his emails if things don't work out.
