Possibly recorded by spyware on your PC.

Clean it up with Adaware or SpyDoctor or something similar.

Find them at download.com

If you used the internet at a place like work, school, public library, internet cafe then they can easily keep a log where their users surf to over their network. An Internet Service Provider can keep a log where their users travel over their network. Each website can keep a log of the IP address of the user and what they did on their website. Each proxy can keep a similar log. I hired someone fresh out of college and the guy would not stop personal surfing. I had the IT guys set it up so as soon as he was accessing the internet that I would get an email notice. We gave him plenty of warnings. When he told me that what he did on the internet should be private, that is when I fired him and told him what he does on the internet is now private since he is no longer at work. He kept in touch with one of my employees and a few months later he lost another job the same way. I did consider having the IT guys remove his internet ability from his desk but we have too many other computers in the software test lab where he could do the same thing. I also hired someone else and he was surfing porn within an hour on the job. I gave him a warning and he did it again a few days later. He also was let go.

To clear your history you to clear:

For each browser: History, Recently typed URLs, Last download location. Temporary internet files, Temporary files, cookies, each toolbar history (Google , Yahoo, Etc.)
Also: Empty recycle bin, Media player play lists of recent movies played, My Recent Documents

In addition when these files are erased they are not overwritten so any free recovery tool may be able to recover these files.

CCleaner deletes all this automatically. It also has an option to overwrite the files when they are deleted so they can not be recovered.

CCleaner (free)

Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista
Do not install toolbar option
In options.
Uncheck "only delete files older than 48 hour" if needed
Select secure file deletion and number of overwrite passes if needed
Set to run (clean) when the computer starts.
Place cookies you want to keep in save list

In addition any free file recovery program can recover deleted files if they are not overwritten (secure file deletion)

To make files that have been previously deleted but not overwritten unrecoverable:

Install Restoration (free)
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23108-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html

Start Restoration > on menu "Others" > Delete completely > Yes >Yes
Will run for about 6 hours.
Then another menu will appear; click yes ; will run for a couple of minutes more and then be finished.

Overwrites all deleted files making them non recoverable. Does not overwrite Windows files, Programs files, or any other files.

That's pretty much it. You may want to check the following location on your computer though:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

and also
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Content.IE5 is a very well hidden cache folder that saves files from the internet. It's normally cleared when you clear the history and temporary files, but double check to make sure.

There is a folder called index.dat, however you cannot manually delete it , try a program like CCleaner or Winspy and Track Eraser Pro(both the winspy and track eraser is needed because one has to read and the other will delete.)

Your history is also stored in your index.dat files which can be easily decoded using free software by anyone who wants to see where you have been on the internet.

You can remove these index.dat files easily by using CCleaner:
