Yes, they've done plenty of damage. I see most of this with regard to non-Christians trying to get an idea of what Christianity is and they get 20 different answers from 20 different fundies. What's the non-believer supposed to think?

I will say, additionally, that the blame cannot be laid entirely at their feet. ALL Christians, protestant and Catholic, are called and obligated to LIVE THE FAITH. I've seen plenty of Catholics who don't appreciate anything of what they have in the Church, and worse don't live it, and we wonder why non-Catholics/Christians roll their eyes and laugh.

To undo the damage we must start with ourselves. WE have to live the Faith, day by day. WE have to set the example. Otherwise, why even bother calling ourselves Christians?

God bless.

Not near as much damage as liberalism has done. For example.... ordaining homosexuals, rock and roll music, the health and wealth gospels, worldly churches, divorce becoming acceptable, no dress codes, Ted Haggard, and the list goes on and on. Cant tell the difference from some churches and the world .

James 4:4........ know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

velvet raised an excellent question. It was the same in the days of Christ. The fundamentalist Jews had so misrepresented God to their nation and to the rest of the world that when the Saviour finally appeared among them, they did not recognize Him.

probably, fairly i think of it became Christianity right into a shaggy dog tale. once you pay attention the term "bible thumper" who do you think of of, it certainly isn't a call of appreciate. that's a shaggy dog tale, elementary and easy. They count fullyyt on a scripture, which at the same time as the Holy Bible is the main marvelous text fabric, there is plenty extra to Christianity. God Bless

I, too, would have to have the term "fundamentalists" defined.

Some people have accused me of being a "fundamentalist" simply because I am a devout Christian.
On the other hand, I've also been called, among other things, a "tare" by folks who take televangelists seriously, or who have a penchant for letting preachers knock them over, or babbling in nonsense syllables, calling it "tongues"...

What do you mean by fundamentalism, surely you dont mean literalists... ?
I consider "fundies" groups like the KKK, they say on their website that they want to protect "white christianity".
I also consider Mormons that live in their own settlement to be fundies.

But what you are talking about is orthodox Christians?(I hope not) If we are on the same page these people know that they are doing damage and revel in it.

what damage? you mean by reminding you all (sinners, we all are, so don't look around the room, looking for the sinner), that the answer you are looking for is in the Bible. Even if you don't think your answers are in the Bible, all of your questions important life questions are answered in the Bible.
Fundamentalists only read the whole Bible, not just the parts that make them feel good, or easy to figure out. Generally we don't run from a Biblical question, like I said before we have read it, and will keep on studing it.
The problem here is you contempory, modern, feel good christians do not like our answer. Jesus did not come to this world to be everybodies friend. He came to this world to be everybodies savior.
We do not know everything, just more than those who choose not to read, and study the Bible. And then have the the nerve to say we are narrow minded, and we need to brush up on our facts, when it is the other way around. If we are so terrible, why is it that fundamentalists ane more sure of their salvation than any other group? Maybr because our pastors don't shy away from a hard message even when there are vistors in the pews, because we don't want to scare them away. We try really, really hard not to contradict the Bible, Jesus said we all need to tithe (that is 10% gross), the church gets its money from the tithe, not from baking sales, and bingo night. I think I'll stop, before I make someone mad.

Velvet, I could just hug you right now. In fact, I will. lol

(((((((( Velvet ))))))))

I love how you unabashedly make all of these truthful points!

Bible fundamentalist Christianity in no way resembles the worship or beliefs of the early Church. And just look at all the thousands of sects they've created, each one believing and interpreting different things. Would they totally follow and believe the Bible if they even knew who gave it to them in the first place?

It amazes me how they think true Christianity started 500 years ago, even though Christianity has existed and thrived for 2,000 years, since the time of Christ.

As one of my favorite nuns used to say, "If it's NEW, then it AIN'T true"......

Peace and blessings, Velvet.

And what do you consider the damage that fundamentalists have done. You make an accusation but don't state what the damage is.

Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Philemon 1:3
