I have to do a research paper on China, and I've chosen the topic of religion. But i need to prove something or answer a question in the paper. Are there any good questions that i could answer when i'm writing my paper?
Thanks.

what should be Christianity's response to communism?

I had a Chinese friend ask me this last week, I stood there like a deer in headlights, maybe you can answer it for me and send me your paper after you are done with it?

think about this! Its and interesting subject and their is lots of information available now.

The resilience, and the revival, of the church is something of a metaphor for Catholicism in China up to and during a half-century of Communist Party rule. Even with its rebirth and growing popularity, religion is still a question in the minds of the atheist government, and they are still ambivalent about religion in China.

With the Communist takeover in 1949, services were sharply curtailed and all remaining foreign missionaries forced to leave the country. During the Cultural Revolution in the mid-1960s all ideas considered "foreign," "elitist," or "feudal superstition" were attacked, and many of their alleged proponents locked up or killed.

Worship was not allowed again for two decades.

In the economic and political reform that has come since the death of Mao in 1976, there's no question that religion has made a comeback. Protestantism and Catholicism have rebounded, along with the three other religions officially recognized by the state - Islam, Buddhism and Taoism.

Plenty of room for you to decide what part of this question you want to highlight. It should work for your Paper!

I think you have chosen a very interesting topic. First of all, communism does not encourage (in fact, bans) religions. However, the different beliefs "survived" all the efforts of the communist party to evade them.

I would recommend you would break your questions/research into the following:

Pre-communist
how the religions in the country started, what are their beliefs.

During Cultural Revolution
How the revolution affected the practise of the religions

After the Economic reforms (after 80s)

Good luck!

Go to the source, http://www.china.org.cn then do some research there. You will get a lot of questions answered and figure out your own questions in the process.

There is so much misinformation about religion in China printed and assumed in the west, that is borders on criminal.
