A raffle would work well for this. Have a car wash and a bake sale to get your stake money. With your profits, purchase prizes that people really want: iPods, digital cameras, gift cards, etc. Some stores may give you a discount if you tell them it is for a school fundraiser.
It's best to have multiple prizes, people love a chance to win something and the odds are better with more prizes. Price your raffle tickets correctly. Too low and you don't make enough profit, too high and you won't sell enough tickets. Publicize your raffle in the school newsletter, the school website, posters, anywhere that you might find a buyer. Have each student involved responsible for selling a certain number of raffle tickets. For ideas on how to make your raffle fundraiser more successful, go here:

Good Luck.

The two that make the most money are silent auctions with dinner at country clubs and magazine sales. The country club auction is a lot of work because you go around to companies seeking prizes.
The best fund raiser, but not greatly profitable is the one where you take student's art and have it put on various items. The parents order lots of gifts for Christmas presents and so you sell five- ten items per family.

Depends on what you are selling. I am a Junior and we had to sell Rice Cripies Treats so I made a great offer of 2 for $1 and 1 for $0.50. Be aware, you will lose some money.

How about a community swap meet in your school parking lot. We did this once a month all year when my son was a senior to raise $ for Grad Nite. $20.00 per space which was 2 parking stalls. We put up banners, advertized in the community paper, and included a flyer with the mailers the school sends home. Raised over $15,000 and it was fun.

Make some food at home and sell it, so the money you goes as funds. Or make some kind of fake lottery tickets and sell them so the money can be the fund.
