AirBob gave you a great idea of the sensation...

John B makes me laugh... "Beating the Air into Submission" !! I was a aircrewman / sensor operator in the SH-60B Seahawk for 15 years... almost 5000 flight hours.

Hopefully, you're getting your ride in a gas-turbine helo... much smoother and quieter ride than a piston helo. BUT it's a blast either way.

I STILL remember my first flight (during SAR school) way back on August 28th of 1985... we were HOISTED from the water into an UH-3 Sea King, flown around Pensacola Bay, and then jumped back into the water. WOW what a blast !

Riding in a "chopper" is great! It's very exciting but it's noisy & "shakey" (alot of vibration!) in a smaller helicopter. The larger business helicopters are relatively smooth except for the landing which can be a little "rough" if the pilot sets it down too fast. Go for it! And enjoy the experience!

It is just like riding on a magic carpet!!! It is so wonderful and one of the best experiences I have had!! It helps if you are nervous to have the pilot explain things before hand, basically give you a brief course in what to expect and all that. My husband is a helicopter pilot, so when he took me up, he gave me so much infor that I wasn't nervous at all!
Good luck and have fun!!!

The important thing to do is to trust the pilot's skill and professionalism, he has no intention of placing himself or his passengers in unnecessary peril. The first sensation will be when the hilo lifts off and hovers with seemingly no support. You will next move to the liftoff area where you will transition into forward flight and begin to gain altitude. Once at altitude, the flight should be very smooth, sit back and enjoy it because it will be over long before your want it to be.

Nine years being all I can be in the army flying helicopters. You'll love it. By the way, helicopters don't actually fly. They beat the air into submission.
