Most medical transcription service organizations require that entry levle MTs (medical transcriptionists) have completed some sort of medical transcription education. Medical transcription is a highly specialized field with patient care at stake with federal laws on patient privacy. The best way to break into this field (and work from home) is to attend an approved medical transcription school like M-TEC, which continually updates their curriculum, uses college-level textbooks, and is the only approved school currently teaching medical transcription based technology as part of their curriculum. Their course cannot be bought and sold on places like eBay because of the continuous updating and staying up on current trends. This school is a leader in medical transcription education and they have a 98% placement rate of their graduates. If you want the best education and best opportunities for employment, consider attending M-TEC.

You're going to have a hard time finding a job without any experience and without a certificate. The best way to do this would be to work for someone locally for a couple years and then apply online to work at home after you have that experience. Another way is to get your certificate at a school like MT Advantage (www.mtacc.net) which teaches advanced MT training and has 100% job placement rate for its graduates. They also have computer classes which are included and teach MT shortcuts and abbreviation programs which most other schools don't teach.

I have a certificate and unless I drive over an hour away to a MAJOR hospital, there is nothing...

I finished school in 2005 was 2 points away from being hired on the net for a work from home job but then they say..come back in 1 year (at that point they will not hire you anyway because your older than 1 year from graduation)...

If you're looking for work at home for medical transcription, and don't have a couple years or more experience doing it in an office, you aren't likely to find what you're looking for, whatever the online school claimed when you signed up.
