I went to the dentist and my roots are gone. All my teeth are going to fall out. What causes this and what do I do?

It isn't decay. When the x-rays were taken they just weren't there. At first they thought my braces did it.

I have heard of cases where orthodontic therapy did cause root resorption. That is where, for no obvious reason, the roots of the tooth seem to dissolve away. Grinding and/or clenching can also be a cause of root resorption. It is an unfortunate situation and one that, if advanced, there seems to be very little that you can do to stop it. If it is caused by grinding, wearing an appliance called a nightguard (occlusal guards) might stop it. But, once the roots are gone, they don't grow back. You can only hope that you can keep the remaining teeth in the bone with very good oral hygiene and regular dental cleanings and care. Good luck.

At this point there is not much that you can do. Root loss comes from prolonged tooth decay. I hope things get better for you.

I understand how you feel. Some of my tooth roots are being eaten up due to tooth decay. I am now approaching the help of my dentist.
