i felt so awkward because he had quite ignored my existance, and so i didnt tell him - which has left me feeling terrid?

He rudely ignored your existance and went home with a gravied sleeve? Sounds like Karma to me.

I think I see where you're going with this.
Because he was rude to you, you felt at the time that you didn't owe him the kindness of telling him you had spilt gravy on his coat--but now, in retrospect--because you obviously have been taught the difference between right and wrong--you feel badly that you didn't tell him.
It's called having a conscience and learning that two wrongs do not make a right. Move on from this and remember it.

if he didn't notice or say anything about it don't worry. if he comes back to say anything don't say that you knew and didn't tell him, just say "did i really? I'm so sorry." and then depending on what he wants offer to get it dry cleaned.
