I guess the obvious retort would be 'and yours isn't?'

What point is there to this question? Poop comes out that hole, it's not going to be daisy fresh. The smell is completely the responsibility of the type of food going IN to the cat at the other end. Change the diet away from fish flavored foods and the poop in the box will not smell as bad.

Most likely, you cat needs his/her anal glands expressed, this needs to be done at your vet's office. If it becomes a habitual problem, the Tech can show you how to do it at home.

The anal sacs are located just under the skin on each side of the anus. They produce a dark, foul smelling substance most often described as "fishy" smelling. Most animals have the ability to empty these sacs voluntarily, but some are unable to empty them on their own. They can become impacted, infected, or abscessed if left untreated.

Besides unpleasant smell, signs of full anal gland include obsessively licking the fur off just under the tail, tenderness near the tail and/or scooting. Discharge or blood can indicate infection or abscess.

I'm not sure, but my cat has a smelly one too! She jumps on my lap and sticks her butt in my face and I am just overwhelmed! It is ridiculous the smells that can come from little holes.

Cats have scent glands to mask their poop with their own smell, to identify themselves to other cats, just like dogs. If you can smell this very strongly and you are a good distance from your kitty's rear (please say you are), might want to have a vet check it out just in case.
