What does virtue in this context refer too?

Mark 5:30
And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

It seems humans have much to say about things.

Mark 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them].

Mark 6:6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

The people's faith. Christ didn't need faith for that, just as a child, after he has learned how to walk, doesn't need faith for his steps anymore. He needs faith only for things He hasn't done, and is not sure about, but trusts in His Father to take up the slack. Trust is a type of faith.

Christ had virtue, or the Healing Force that He had given to Him and by learning how to build up. By the time he was about finished with His ministry, he didn't look the same. He looked old, and spent, in three years of giving of this virtue. The people around Him were benefited by His presence. The twelve had such "Force," just by being in His presence all the time. They could do anything. He told His twelve that they would do even greater things than He did, as He had to leave soon. he wanted to leave! He was like Hercules, holding up the world.

I think that Jesus, who preached the love between people, was influenced by the wisdom of Buddha. At his time, Jews believers, who were split between them into different sects, did not agree with him as a Jewish one; however Judas was his best friend. Jesus learnt kabala too and thanks to his knowledge he was considered by some people (Jews or not)
as a spiritual one. As Buddha preached love, Jesus did the same too.

Why in fact would Jesus be required at all, it seems obvious that something inside these people healed them?

In response to your second question, the faith can heal people by auto-suggestion (like a placebo-effect).
Wikipedia: Autosuggestion (or the related autogenic training) is a process by which an individual trains the subconscious mind to believe something, or systematically schematizes the person's own mental associations, usually for a given purpose. This is accomplished through self-hypnosis methods or repetitive, constant self-affirmations, and may be seen as a form of self-induced brainwashing. The acceptance of autosuggestion may be quickened through mental visualization of that which the individual would like to believe. Its success is typically correlated with the consistency of its use and the length of time over which it is used. Autosuggestion can be seen as an aspect of prayer, self-exhorting "pep talks", meditation, and other similar activities.

Jesus was a charismatic one and was required thanks to his power of 'exhorting'. He was a militant too; and at his time the Roman Empire invasion with his laws had gotten worse within Israel when Jews were divided into separated groups. So Jesus had wished to unify the Jews and people of different beliefs that had been living in Israel.

If it were the faith of the person being healed then why didn’t they heal before Jesus showed up?

Of course that people were healed by auto-suggestion thanks to some sorcerers' tribes all over the world and at each era.

Was there an instance where Jesus couldn’t heal someone due to their lack of faith?

I think that the belief in Jesus could help people to heal but Jesus was a human one too; it is possible that sometimes he felt helpless.

Sometimes Jesus used a miracle to bring glory to the Father God. Other times, he clearly said, "Your faith has made you whole." Faith is about believing that God can! Take the father that came to Jesus and said, "if you can heal my son." Jesus answered, "If you can believe..... all things are possible with God." Jesus is teaching us that we must 'believe' God is able. That's faith! Believe. Trust! Jesus is necessary in our lives because of many reasons, but in regard to your question of healing, it is God who heals - we cannot. In answer to your last question, Jesus can heal anytime and anyone he wants. It doesn't depend on us. But it pleases the Father very much to find those who have such strong belief. May God increase your understanding.

I'm sure there were many healers before Christ. There are individuals who have that ability. Healing is about alignment of energies. If an individual has faith or hope that they can be healed, by some means or higher power, and they connect with with a healer, the energies align, and the healing happens. My mother was a hands-on healer, and I have seen, as well as experienced her abilities. There have been healers since the dawn of time. Faith is an energy/vibration that is conducive to healing. It could be faith in anything. Some component in the individual who is determined to stay in this incarnation. Align that energy with a healer, and the healing happens.

THE BIBLE GIVES US ALL KINDS OF ILLUSTRATIONS OF JESUS HEALING AND NOT HEALING. THE WAY SOME WERE HEALED AND SOME NOT.
JESUS PRAYED TWICE FOR THE BLIND MAN TO BE HEALED.HE SPIT ON THE BLIND MANS EYES. (THIS WAS A SIGN OF CONTEMPT FOR THE DISEASE THAT BLINDED THE MAN) MARK 8:23.

JESUS HEALED MANY BY JUST SPEAKING THE WORD.
HE SENT HIS WORD AND HEALED THEM AND SAVED THEM FROM THEIR DESTRUCTION.PSALMS 103:4

MANY WOULD JUST TOUCH HIS GARMENTS AND THEY WERE HEALED.

THERE WAS A TIME THAT SOME WERE NOT HEALED BECAUSE OF THEIR UNBELIEF.MATTHEW 13:58

OH YES, THE WORD VIRTUE IN THAT CONTEXT MEANS "DUNAMIS" A GREEK WORD FOR MIRACULOUS POWER
#1411 IN THE STRONGS CONCORDANCE.

SO JESUS GARMENTS HAD POWER TOO.

1. Jesus said, "your faith has made you whole". The sick
person is the one who had to have faith that Jesus
could indeed heal him. I've seen this happen even
today and there are proofs almost every program on
the 700 Club.

2. The 2nd answer is "power". He felt the power leave
Him when His garment was touched by a woman who
wanted to be healed and believed she would be if she
could only touch the hem of His garment.

The simple answer is that it was in the plan....the person being healed had charted that in that lifetime they would meet Jesus and be healed. Jesus, likewise planned it in his chart that he would "heal" that person. It was all just a pre-planned thing that was thought up before their souls even moved from Heaven to Earth.

Fakir Chand, an enlightened Surat Shabd master who wrote some books exposing a lot of phony guru practices says that this faith in the mind of the person who wants to be healed is the power that actually heals. Furthermore, he maintained that this person's faith can be so strong that one of these people could be healed even by a totally phony healer, as long as their faith was this strong.
He found out about this when some people told him that they had seen him visiting them and healing them, when Fakir Chand himself had no memory of having done so. He thought that many masters would just act like they knew about it even if they didn't, and they did this to try to keep the faith of the people strong.
Chand thought this was unethical and should not happen. He thought that masters who allow students to think the master deliberately came and healed them when they in fact had no recollection of having done so was dishonest and should be stopped. Of course a lot of gurus cried foul when Chand wrote this stuff. He was kind of exposing their dishonesty, and it made him rather unpopular.
So as to your question, no, Jesus is not required to be physically present in order for their faith to heal them.
I think Virtue in this context is like the Buddhist concept of spiritual merit. If he felt virtue going out of him then he knew someone was being healed. This virtue or merit could not be permanently depleted, just temporarily.

The faith was in the one healed. They had faith in Jesus and in His power to heal.

This is MY understanding of "virtue" in this passage. People crowded around Jesus, in hope that merely touching Him would heal or cleanse them. When the woman touched Him beleiving that she would be healed simply by touch, Jesus sensed her great faith and felt His virtue, or healing power leave Him and enter her.

When He identifies her just a couple of verses later, He tells her that indeed her faith has made her whole.

Jesus stood in reality. The faith of the sick healed them, but Jesus was the instrument. Healing the body can not happen without first healing the mind. Jesus was so present & awake that anyone in his presence would have their consciousness moved to a more clear place in the line. He had total command of awareness, & since there is really only one anyone near him would feel their awareness clear as it move to match him.
