I personally think 12 is too young for contact lenses. And no, I am not some old whiner, I am young myself and I still wouldn't advise it. I wear contacts but I am about ten years older than your sister. The youngest age for contacts should be about 15 in my opinion. Contacts require meticulous maintenence if you don't want to mess up your eyes (i.e. the cleaning, the replacement schedule, going back and forth for fittings). 12 year olds are still children and shouldn't be worried about stuff like that at that age. I'd just get some really nice designer glasses with some thin no-glare lenses and call it a day if I were her. I began wearing contacts at age 19. I too wanted contacts (the colored ones!) when I was her age but looking back now the reason I wanted contacts was because my glasses were ugly Medicaid glasses. If I had some nice young looking frames with thin no-glare lenses, then wearing them wouldn't have been such a big deal.

My daughter got her first pair of contacts at the age of 11. They're a good choice for that age if the person is responsible enough about keeping the contacts clean. Contact lenses are cheaper than broken or warped glasses.

Only if she understands how to use them properly. I have been wearing contacts for years, without any problems.
You want pros and cons. Pros...nicer than glasses, easy to wear, newer technologies are making contacts safer for you eyes.
Con's...costly if you go through alot of them, some pain when you start wearing them, eye infections, protien buildup.

sure. I received them while I used to be that age and I'm 21 now. There is not anything fallacious with contacts. I used to be so completely happy I used to be competent to have them. I put on my glasses infrequently, however it is certainly first-rate to have the choice to put on contacts, for illustration, while you are figuring out/gambling a recreation, and even on a sunny day being competent to put on sun shades :)

contacts are fine for someone who is 12, as long as she is responsible enough to take care of her eyes.
Pros: can see better than with glasses, can play sports, look good
Cons: have to take care of them, can be expensive

no. if her eyes are still changing every 6 mths, they won't give them to her anyway. plus, at 12, she's not going to care for them as she should. i know. i was that irresponsible kid once.
