You know that the number of eggs - 1 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 and the number of eggs is divisible by 7.
The LCM (least common multiple) of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 = 2 * 2 * 3 * 5 = 60.
The multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are 60n where n >= 1.
The number of eggs is 60n + 1.
Let's check our options:
61, 121, 181, 241 are not divisible by 7.
301 is!
He had 301 eggs.
When he separates the eggs into groups of 7, there are 43 in each group.
When he separates the eggs into groups of 2, there are 150 groups with 1 left over.
When he separates the eggs into groups of 3, there are 100 groups with 1 left over.
When he separates the eggs into groups of 4, there are 75 groups with 1 left over.
When he separates the eggs into groups of 5, there are 60 groups with 1 left over.
When he separates the eggs into groups of 6, there are 50 groups with 1 left over.
